Love vs Caste: A Fight We Never Wanted but Could Never Avoid
Part 1: A New Beginning (2017)
After receiving a disappointing salary hike, I decided it was time for a change. In 2017, I moved to a new company with better hopes and bigger aspirations. I was assigned to a project with a completely new team.
Little did I know that one of my teammates would become such an important part of my life. At that time, she was just another colleague, and I never imagined that our paths would remain connected for almost nine years.
One fine day, while I was on a trip with my friends, I received a call from her regarding a project-related issue. Looking back now, that phone call turned out to be the first step of a journey that would change my life forever.
Part 2: The Love Story
As time passed, we became close friends. We started spending more time together, travelling around the city, sharing conversations, and creating countless memories.
One day, I finally gathered the courage to express my feelings and proposed to her.
Thankfully, she didn’t reject me immediately. Instead, she took five days to think about it before accepting my proposal. Those five days felt longer than five years, but the wait was worth it.
Once we decided to be together, we didn’t waste much time. We informed our parents about our relationship, hoping for their blessings and support.
Part 3: The Battle Beyond Love
From my family’s side, the response was positive and encouraging.
However, things were very different on her side.
The primary objection was caste.
What started as a simple love story soon became a long battle. Since 2017, we have been trying our best to convince everyone, hoping that love would eventually win over social barriers.
Years passed, but the struggle continued.
We kept fighting, waiting, hoping, and believing that one day things would change.
Unfortunately, even after all these years, it feels like we are still on the losing side.
Part 4: Standing at a Crossroads
Today, I am almost 36 years old.
My parents are asking me to move on and think about my future. Deep down, I know how difficult it would be to accept that I may never get the chance to share my life with the person I have loved for so many years.
At the same time, another thought troubles me.
How do I suddenly welcome someone else into my life after investing nearly a decade emotionally in one person?
More importantly, I don’t want to be unfair to another girl by marrying her if my heart is still carrying the weight of an unfinished chapter.
These questions have no easy answers.
Part 5: A Telugu Story
Many of you might have already guessed where I am from.
Yes, I am from Telugu land. 🫣
And if you’re from here, you probably know that sometimes the biggest challenges in a love story are not the couple themselves, but the barriers created around them.
This isn’t just a love story.
It’s a story of hope, patience, sacrifice, and a battle that has lasted for almost nine years.
Whether it ends as a success story or a lesson in life, it will always remain one of the most important chapters of my journey.
