Amanita in resin (update, with comparison a month out)
I posted a little over a month ago about a destroying angel mushroom I put into resin after doing a faux plastination with acetone and PEG400.
I got a lot of comments concerned it would rot, but it hasn't. A month later, still going strong. There was some haloing from the resin itself on the back, I think that was a technique problem (I pushed the mushroom into a layer of gelled resin to try to get it to stay in place and at that interface it didn’t cure nicely).
The mushroom itself is holding structure. I also stuck a second amanita I had in my freezer into resin without any processing and it IS rotting. It's been three days and it already looks like trash. I’ll put up photos of the PEG400 infiltrated mushroom and the fresh/frozen mushroom.
So far so good with the processed specimen. I have a couple more of these I’m trying to infiltrate PEG400 into. Once I have it dialed in I’ll write up a protocol so folks can resin embed their own mushrooms if they want.
