Peer Pressure: The Ultimate Performance Enhancement (82 Reps 16 kg Snatch Challenge)

Also QOTSA. Super fucking sloppy but this is just about max effort for me lol. I could maybe eke out a few more reps with better sprint technique. I had to try though since everybody else did so many more than me ☺️

Please enjoy 3 minutes of me looking like I don’t know how to snatch as I try to figure out what will help me go faster 🤦🏽‍♀️🤣 Thumbs forward helped, as well as a speed switch on the upswing. Still can’t do hand to hand like bpeezer. I’m too clumsy. It was really hard for me to not revert back to what I’m used to at any rate.

Thank you to everybody who’s tried! Hopefully you felt like you needed to puke as much as I do right now. And now I need to DHS 😔

16 kg Snatch Challenge - How Many Reps Can You Get in 3 Minutes?

Anybody??? I got 64. Whoever wins gets bragging rights and gets to pick another challenge. I don’t care what weight you use and I don’t even care if you put the bell down 🤣

I know I keep periodically posting trying to make challenges a thing again and they’re not happening. But I’m exceptionally good at doing the same shit over and over again if no one noticed LOL.

Also yes, this set was terrible. I’m really out of GS shape and it shows. I need to start running again. So so so bad.

Mex-IKO Open Kettlebell Sport Competition - 17 October, 2026

Another upcoming event that’s been brought to my attention ☺️ I’ve competed with them before and they’re great! Also it’s only $40 USD 🫡

FINALLY PRESSED OVER 100 LB 🥳

Hi guys. I’m back to continue documenting my OHP journey. I’m So. Fucking. Stoked.

It was 101 lb to be exact. I was planning for 100 but it was too much mental energy to add up the plates so I guessed LOL. Math is hard.

I was so in the zone as I was adding weight to the bar, I didn’t want to lose the emotional momentum by thinking too hard. I have no idea if that makes sense? My kids were fighting and trying to talk to me about it and I was like you guys SERIOUSLY need to leave me alone this is really important 🤦🏽‍♀️🤣

I’m not sure I had more in me today, but hitting this and it feeling that good just means I’m moving the goalpost now 😇 105? 110? Whatever it ends up being, I feel like I’ve finally earned the right to call myself strong. So now I’m never gonna shut up about it. Sorry to anyone who knows me 🤣

Second in-person comp

Hey fellow GSers, I am finally making good on a blood oath I swore years ago as a birthday present for our very own FewAbbreviations, to finally make a post! Sorry Few for the foot dragging, I’m self conscious.

This past NorCal was my second in person comp and I think my fourth overall. Denis and his team put on a great event as always. I shared the platform with some excellent lifters, am on the far left in this clip. I was hoping to improve my rep count over last year and I did, 209 @8kg vs 203, and I’m told with much better fixation than last year - bell wobble at the top being one of my hobbies.

Some audience members seemed astonished by my performance as a 71-year-old (or more likely, by the fact I’m still breathing at all). And they were unconvinced when I truthfully told them it’s never too late, if I can do it anyone can. Multiple setbacks have forced me back to the starting line but I’m stubborn and keep returning for more punishment. 😊

I would be remiss not to thank all of you for your informative and entertaining posts these past years. I admire and learn so much from you, especially FewAbbreviations, without whom I would not be in this sport at all.

PS: feedback on my technique will be gratefully received 🙏🙏 unless you tell me the movement is dangerous with a low risk to reward ratio 🤣

Twin Cities Kettlebell Open - 12 September, 2026

Looks like there’s also $1000 of pro kb gift cards that will be raffled (?) at the comp! Alexander’s video about the death of GS has motivated me to get my shit together and start posting more here again 🥰

Who’s competing?

Why Kettlebell Sport is Completely Dead (And How We Can Save It)

What's up guys? Wanted to share a great video from Alexander. Is he around here anymore?? The takeaway is that GS will never be a "prestige" or Olympic sport, and it's not fun to watch like soccer etc, so therefore it needs to be an amateur driven sport like running or BJJ. That means it's up to us lol. I think we all kind of already knew this, but he broke it down really well.

I'm just going to bullet point shit here, but I'd love to hear other people's thoughts too.

- I think COVID did a good job killing the growth that he mentioned GS seemed to be experiencing 10-15 years ago.

- Alexander says we shouldn't lower the standards to make it more "accessible" and I think I agree. He's right, it doesn't feel good to know you made rank just because they lowered the numbers LOL.

- Re: Pentathlon as another accessible way to get into sport - I'm partial to it, and I wonder if it's not as popular just because there's less advertisement/knowledge of it? Not like there's much coverage of the traditional lifts, but they do get most of the attention. I also feel like this varies by location but who knows. Like are they even doing marathon lifting in Russia? Lol.

- We are all amateurs and we should consider it a privilege to pay to compete in comps/worlds. This is a really good point. I used to complain about it, but really, we are paying to grow the sport we love. It's just like any other hobby. Plus it's investing in yourself at the end of the day.

- Alexander says we all talk about how GS is really hard and that's why nobody does it (I'm guilty of this lol), but people DO do hard things. People are tougher than we give them credit for. I like that and I agree. If there's Average Joes out there running marathons/doing Crossfit/Hyrox/BJJ there should logically be people who could do GS. I think we should steal athletes... just kidding?

- He says we need to make GS cool to grow it - we need more ambassadors of the sport. Remind people that you can become a beast doing it. You get strength, conditioning, and most importantly grit. This is very true. I can't remember what it feels like to see GS from the outside - how do we make it look cool? Obviously social media is a huge part.

- I feel like for whatever reason, GS athletes are kind of antithetic to the typical influencer vibe but maybe I'm projecting lol. Alexander's done a really good job of trying to bring GS to the bigger stage, but I really took this video as a call to action for me to keep trying to grow the sport. Community is everything and I suppose that's why I can never really stop posting here. Sorry lol.

20 kg Overhead Swing —> Bottoms Up Overhead Squat

Been meaning to try this for ages and was reminded after seeing the sub activity today lol. Managed 20 kg but failed 24 🤣 I was really close but I think I was too fatigued from barbell stuff beforehand. Anyone else want to give it a go?

Did some sets of 20 overhead swings afterwards. Such a fun movement ❤️ Gets my heart rate up like snatches but nicer on my hands and forearms when I’m already feeling a bit beat up.

98.5 LB Overhead Press PR

Hello friends! I posted here once long ago with an overhead press PR of 96 lbs. I’m back now with a PR of 98.5 lol. I need to tell the world 🥳

I just started training it again like a month(ish) ago so I swear my progress wasn’t actually that slow 🤣 But very, very, very happy even though it’s ugly as shit. It was definitely a fight.

Also got 96 for 2 right before this. All the thanks in the world to /u/LennyTheRebel for the support. I’m inching closer to 100 so that I can aim for 101 and then probably something stupid after that LOL. OHP is the fucking best.

12 kg DHS Intervals / First Day of KettleZoom

What’s up guys?! I’m still on the DHS train. Having a blast 😁🤣

1’ on, 1:15 off intervals with the 12s. 10 sets. Pace was 11,12,12,12,12,12,12,12,12,14. Then I did a 5’ set with 8s - 12,11,12,14,17. Very happy because 5’ doesn’t feel scary at all. And 10’ is just 5’ two times, which is basically nothing, right??? I’m just kidding but sometimes lying to yourself is a good strategy.

I’m planning on hosting our first official KettleZoom on Tuesday at 3 pm PT. If you’re interested in coming please let me know so I can get a head count. I’m probably going to use google meet instead of zoom too, just because it allows for more time.

I think it would be fun to do a 10’ version of a triathlon - 4’ OALC, 4’ snatch, 2’ strict press for the first day. Multiswitch, pick whatever weight you want, and modify to half snatch/push press as needed. I’m not set on this though, and may adjust depending on who shows up.

Let me know if you have any questions and/or suggestions!

And if anyone is interested in a trip down memory lane, I searched the sub to remind myself of the format for the triathlon and found this:

😭😭😭

I forgot about half marathon Saturday! Maybe we’ll start doing that again lol.

Tentative KettleZoom Times

What’s up guys?

Scheduling is proving to be exactly as tough as I imagined 🤣

I think it would be best to have at least two a month so there’s options for everybody, one on a weekday and one on a weekend.

I’m tentatively looking at one Tuesday at 22:00 UTC. Is that 10 pm UTC? So 3 pm (PT), 4 pm (MST), 5 pm (UTC-4), and 6 pm (EST). It’s also the buttcrack of dawn for everybody else so I was thinking we could do another one on Sunday at 15:00 UTC. I think that would be 8 am (PT), 4 pm (UTC+1), 5 pm (UTC+2), 6 pm (UTC+3), and somewhere between those times for everybody else in North America. Please feel free to double check lol. I’m sure I made a mistake somewhere. Let me know if that works or if anyone has a better idea let me know!!

Clip is the end of my first 12’ set. Pace was 10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,15 🥳

KettleZoom Scheduling

Name unabashedly stolen from Manos del Gordo so thank you for that 🤣

And credit to @finestkettlebellmemes for the meme.

Thanks to everybody for showing interest! There’s even more people than I expected 🥳

I think the easiest way to figure out scheduling is for everybody to throw out some times that work for them and then we can narrow it down.

I know we’ve got people around the US/Canada and also Europe so this is a perfect opportunity for me to learn time zones LOL. I’ll tag everybody and if you can just comment your time zone and some options for days that work for you that would be great! Thanks again, and happy lifting ☺️

Found An 80 kg Bell In The Wild 🤯

So of course I had to swing it ☺️ Definitely got some weird looks lol.

I joined a local weightlifting club and ended up squatting in the powerlifting section tonight and saw it tucked away. Pretty cool. I’ve never seen one this heavy. I tried the other bells too but I can’t remember how much they were. Like 100ish lbs? They were easy but this one totally threw me off since I had no idea what to expect. I was kind of annoyed by how ugly these reps are but then I remembered this is definitely over my bodyweight, even with as chunky as I am lately 🤣

And yes I’m gonna keep swinging it every time I train there LOL.
