1986 HVAC Systems Installed when homes were built?

We bought a house in Ocotillo several years ago. Previous owner installed a 5 Ton Goodman HVAC system in 2023. I was wondering what the standard was in 1986 for homes with roughly 2200 square feet. I'm concerned that the retrofit installed exceeded the tonnage that the return system was built around. For instance if it was a 3.5 or 4 ton system back then, then I can't push enough air to meet the standard of this 5 ton. Anyone have any insight into what was likely installed in 1986 when the home was built? Reason is because we've had problems with freezing coils and it's air flow related.
