Summer activities for young teens

What is everyone doing with their young teens during working hours this summer?

This is our first summer having this type of schedule so we have never had to think about this before. Younger sibling is going to “camp” at his school. But oldest exceeds the age for the school summer care.

I don’t really want my young teen home 8 hours a day alone multiple days a week.

Looking for suggestions, recommendations.

Don’t suggest “family” we have no family
Here. We live in a subdivision with few younger families and they are all going away for the summer (my oldests bff).

Can Koozie!

It’s hard to pick so I got all! Stay cool in style with these adorable mini drink can koozies! Great for soda or your favorite beverage! b33r can Koozie coolers! Designed to look like tiny retro water coolers, these colorful can holders are the perfect mix of fun and functional. The bright neon colors, matching handles, and little spout detail make them impossible not to notice — they’re the kind of thing people will ask about the second they see them. Perfect for keeping your favorite canned drinks insulated while adding a playful touch to your desk, picnic, party, or pool day. Honestly, with so many fun color combinations to choose from, it’s hard to stop at just one!

People probably don't honk in Scottsdale or anywhere in Phoenix Area as soon as the light turns green. Honking isnt common in general.

I bet people don't honk their horns so much in Scottsdale or in Phoenix Valley in general. I may be wrong, but horn honking and road rage isnt common.

I really do think the Phoenix area has good drivers who rarely use the horn.

PSA scammy dentists in the area

Hi yall! I had commented on a post looking for advice on dentistry in the area and noticed that mods deleted my comments. Nothing I commented was false or even slightly inappropriate for this page. I wanted to make a separate post with more context to clear any confusion.

In December 2023 I visited the dentist for the first time in 10 years, Dr. Cefalo.
Trusting and naïve, I told the "dr" this. I also told him that my biggest insecurity was my smile but unsure why. He asks me if it is because my teeth tilt inward and I have a gummy smile. Yes! That's it, I hadn't been able to put my finger on it but gummy smile, hated it.
Dr. Cefalo insures me that Invisalign is something that could correct my overbite. Not camouflage. Not help. He convinced me for two years and 3 refinement trays that Invisalign would CORRECT my overbite.
I asked many questions, upon asking for my client files none of which were documented. Only that "dr answered all of pts questions".
Questions that were along the lines of, would brackets be faster?
Is this working?
Will my molars come outward as well? (Constant mention of front 4-6 teeth being stuck on bone and they're just being stubborn).
Constant ear pain finally led me to a primary care doc, which led me to an ENT. Where I found out Invisalign was never, and could never correct an overbite.
When I told dr Cefalo my new treatment plan (pallet expander and two years of brackets) he acted shocked and surprised, saying he didn't imagine it would be so invasive. I also asked him if he could tell I had been grinding my teeth, said yes but nothing concerning. (Shocker, teeth grinding caused my ear pain).
Dr. Davis did give me a refund when I brought my concerns to the office, which had me conflicted on what to do next. But ultimately, what Dr Cefalo did was incredibly evil and I think people should know about it. My next question I wanted to be on record Dr, are you dumb? Didn't see a jaw discrepancy and/or thought plastic could fix it? Or are you poor? You needed to scam someone who CLEARLY doesn't come from luck or money (ie hadn't been to the dentist in 10 years)?

Construction Chandler Heights ans Crossbow Way

Hello!

I have tried looking up what is being built on the corner of Crossbow Way and Chandler Heights and found nothing... odd.

Any idea what is being built there?

City of Chandler trees

Is it just me or does it seem as though the City of Chandler's department in charge of landscaping is just massacreing the street trees? It seems as though the workers are just doing busy work and in the process, destroying in a a few (or many) poor cuts the years it takes to cultivate a mature tree.

Is there either a city arborist or urban forester or landscaping administrator to direct landscaping workers and ensure they are working within certain BMPs? As an aspiring arborist, it pains me to drive down the streets here and see once beautiful trees being destroyed by what seems to be untrained individuals.

Has anyone found workplaces in the Phoenix area or in Arizona in general to be so toxic compared to where you lived/worked before?

Just wondering what everyone's controversial opinion is. Mine is some workplaces were so bad. I left Arizona and I don't think i have any desire to return. But I remember once I was fired only after 2 weeks on the job, and was always in trouble for petty things. And one internship had concerns about me walking around too much. Idk, but many coworkers I worked with or talked with all seemed so rude for no reason. One in particular used to raise her voice at me for asking questions. And I remember another one was angry and seemed mad for no reason.

I used to work in the social work field for context. Maybe it was that field? And then I was written up for ditching an internship when there was a misunderstanding of when it started and they dealt with it with a really rude attitude. The mean girls culture felt so common too. And I was also once written up for texting my supervisor instead of writing it in an email.

And one time I asked someone at an agency where my interview was and the lady was just rude and nasty towards me, saying, "its your interview, you should know."

I left and I have PTSD from these experiences and I find myself having panic attacks sometimes.

People were just so mean in Phoenix and in Tucson. And then I wont forget when some employees had concerns of me wandering around when I didn't know what to do and had a horrible supervisors.

Just want to hear from others if this is normal for Arizona. Again, was in the social work field too.

Chandler public pre-k questions

We live in Tucson and are looking to move to the Chandler area by the end of this year. The biggest reason for our move is to be in a better school district for our kids. My youngest will be 4 by summer of 2027 and we will be looking to enroll him in Pre-K. Are there any parents who have gone through the enrollment process for pre-k in Chandler recently who can give insight on how competitive it is to get your child into some of the schools? Also any guidance on which pre-k schools you’ve liked I would love to know more about since we’re not from the area. Thank you!

Heading out to Chandler

Hey guys/gals
I’m heading back out to Chandler for work on Sunday, and am looking for some things to do during the evening next week. Is there any live music at bars happening? Any cool events? I’m up for anything. We may go to the Dbacks game on Wednesday, but open to suggestions for Wednesday too.

Class sizes CTA/ACP

I know this varies year to year and class to class, but how are the class sizes for the CTA and ACP (through Chandler unified school district). I know the curriculum is different but I wondered if class sizes are kept smaller too?

Watching EPL in Chandler

I’m in Chandler next weekend for work and I was wondering if there are any bars that show the English Premier League matches? It’s the final game of the season, kick off is at 8am MST so I’m guessing not every sports bar will be open. Any help would be appreciated!

Thoughts on hiring a regular house cleaner? How much do you usually pay?

Lately I’ve been thinking about getting a regular house cleaner because keeping up with everything has been exhausting. Curious how often people hire cleaners and what the usual rates look like these days. Has it been worth it for you?
