How Do You Handle Orders That Get Split into Multiple Boxes Unnecessarily?

Has anyone noticed that automated packing through Shopify shipping apps works well most of the time, but every now and then the app splits an order into two boxes when it could easily fit into one?

I see this most often with mixed-size orders. The packing logic follows the product dimensions exactly, but it doesn’t always match how a warehouse team would actually pack the items.

A few ways to deal with this are adjusting box dimensions, setting up packing rules to reduce unnecessary multi-box shipments, or letting the warehouse team combine packages before buying labels, but that does not do a great job in saving time.

Curious how others handle this in practice. Have you found a good way to make the packing logic more accurate, or do you just accept the occasional extra label cost and treat it as part of your shipping costs?

Would love to hear what’s worked for you.
