Struggling with a decision as to where to send our child for elementary school (starting kindergarten).
She’s currently in a preK program at St. Francis of Assisi, which is 3 blocks from our house. And she totally loves it. Our nanny (who takes care of our one year old) picks her up after school.
We considered PS2, which is also a ten min walk away from us. But she got into the G&T program at PS85. Due to our work schedules, our child would need to stay in the after-school at PS85 (may be too far for our nanny to trek with the baby).
We love St. Francis, and the convenience is great. But we keep hearing that while the lower grades are fine, the upper elementary school grades aren’t challenged like they would be in a public school. And that SFA administration hasn’t done much to help.
We value being a part of the close-knit Upper Ditmars community and ease of drop off/pick up. But don’t want to sacrifice our child’s academic development.
