Should i get a clip mania or spectrum? Budget 20-25$

I tried finding a decent flywheeler that runs full length darts last night for a spare, Because my other one got cracked in multiple places last game. still works with some super glue repairs but i don't mind investing in a new one.

was originally going to get a Clip mania, but at Walmart (MN btw) it was about $30, which is a pretty big markup. I was also considering a DZ/AF Spectrum, which they had for $19, so I grabbed one instead. It seemed like the better option anyway since I planned to use NiMHs, and those are a little weaker.

The next day I plugged some batteries in and got no rev. Tried a few different batteries too, still nothing.

I’m pretty sure I can see a crack in the soldering through the plastic, but even if it’s something simple, I’ll probably just return it.

Anyway, I can preorder either one next time for pretty affordable prices, so I’m curious what opinions people here have.

For the games I’m playing, I’d prefer around or under 90 FPS, which I think might be achievable with NiMHs in the Spectrum, but I’ve got no idea what the Clip Mania performs like besides hearing it’s a little weaker. Tbh i dont actually know how either perform i just came to that conclusion from posts about both.

I did at least get to handle the Spectrum in person, though. I don’t really know how to feel about the mags. Without attachments the blaster feels nice, but the mags feel super weird, and the spring is so loose that it twangs and rattles pretty annoyingly while moving around. ( only other flywheeler i own is a blaze storm and i love those mags, idk if this is a normal thing for most.)

I don’t know how they compare overall, but I definitely prefer the look of the Clip Mania mags.

Edit: i tried some 3d printed mags and they feel nice, so disregard all the hate on the mags lol.

i found this storm blaze at a garage sale for 1$, took a saw to it to get rid of design flaws and brought it to a game. should i invest into upgrades? 50 ish fps

ive never worked on a fly wheeler before but i did notice design flaws right away with the muzzle causing problems and the plunger crushing darts so i cut them up. once i did that it was drastically better but still lacking.

as i stated in the title its pretty low power and because of that it takes like 5 darts for some one to feel a hit. with how loud and not so accurate fly wheelers are i feel like it needs a little boost to be worth using.

fps should be near 75-90 for the games id play.

ive done a little maintenance since then so i will post a updated chrono in the comments.

Almost finished building this dart zone solo pro.
just need to add a rifling device and maybe a spring if it drops the fps a little, i just haven't ordered one.

so far ive shimmed the hinge to be really tight for 0 wobble. (idk if thats helpful with nerf guns but i did anyways.) and doubled up springs for the breach catch. i didnt have any strong springs that size so i found something similar to stack which gets the job done but its not ideal.

i was going to upgrade the barrel but from what ive read its possible to fit a rifling device on the stock barrel and it probably wouldn't benefit much from a longer one.

i tried to 3d print a bigger breach catch but it was really un satisfying to use and felt easy to bump so i put the original back in.

a little background of myself, ive played a few different war sports and ive worked on specifically airsoft equipment for over 4 years.
i have a very good understanding of springs, Pistons, Airseals, electric powered guns and Hop-ups (seen those on rivals i think) and can 3d print parts

but im learning i cant just jump into modding after researching, and since im having trouble finding a lot of info on different things i thought id share my questions here and see what you guys think.

no need to reply to the whole list btw if you have some wisdom or experience with anything even not on the list feel free to share, highly appreciated.

ofc we need something to build off of so

  1. what do you look for in a sturdy base? (the body) or what brands have higher build quality.

  2. what brands have the most reliable power sources (aka the piston/cylinder quality)

  3. do you guys have a Preference when it comes to electric or spring? and what would you say are the trade offs of both.

  4. basically the rest of the questions are about nerf exclusive terms like "BCAR"s and "SCAR"s
the importance of different mods and how they affect different setups.

starting with Bcars if i dont plan to have a ridiculous powered replica would this be a viable mod? say under or around 120 fps.
if i remember scars are just barrel rifling? same idea though, spin helps with accuracy.
i had seen a comment somewhere saying something like "Bcars can get finnicky under 150 FPS" but im curious if there is an alternative for lower power setups, if they aren't as useful when slower and even if some of you guys disagree with the statement.

my assumption is bcars are for powerful replicas while normal rifling will be less finicky with lower power.
how do they perform with shorter darts btw?

would going with a smooth barrel with no spin attachment be a bad idea? im just picturing the air pushing it all out of wack without some sort of attachment to stabilize it as it exits the barrel.
note:
(ive got no experience with nerf just a reminder)

might be an odd question here but where can i find info on rival mods? i seriously have seen little to nothing about these things.

lastly just a all round question what do you guys recommend for some one exploring this, should i dump some money and build some ranged setups? im familiar with spending a bunch on replicas but im really just curious how you guys make these things shoot well.
id doubt my friends would dump alot into theirs so if i can make something reliable and accurate without making it 3x the power i think it will be a fun project.
