Is RE4R harder or just played differently?

tl;dr I'm familiar with RE games but I got my back handed to me in Standard a LOT

I cleared out most of the modern titles on hardest difficulty yet somehow I'm struggling with RE4R. Out of all, I find RE2R and Village the easiest.

On the first few runs, I just take my time and enjoy the combat while clearing out treasures, then restart a couple of times before the castle area to see if I can run it better. Barely any improvement on most parts.

I already beat Salazar but even though I enjoy the fights, especially Verdugo and Krauser, I was just brute forcing my way in and barely surviving even in small fights like Novistadors.

Based on my own observation, the parry and crouch dodge mechanic made me think I can throw myself in the middle and be alright (I played a lot of Sekiro and Monster Hunter, yeah I'm a counter main). So I didn't pay attention to my surroundings. It also didn't help that I can't discern most of their patterns like Mendez and Salazar so my counter playstyle is even more useless. But you know what, I think I just answered my own question.

Anyway, I'm still gonna ask for casual-friendly tips on how to make my runs easier on harder difficulties.

PS. I run SG-09, Riot, and Rifle.

PPS. My girlfriend can outperform me on a controller while I'm on K&M.
