Appealing a program denial

Hello everyone, I had a question for anyone who’s been in or applied to the scholars program before. I was recently denied, and I’m feeling pretty discouraged because being able to show that I’m taking rigorous courses is really important for my academic goals.

Part of my situation is that while I did mention two UCs in schools I want to attend, I’m not primarily aiming for the traditional UC transfer path like most smc students. One of the UCs was honestly more of a filler because the program wanted us to list five schools, and I didn’t necessarily have that many schools I was seriously interested in attending.

When I applied, I was also thinking more about the transfer timelines and requirements for the other schools I’m considering, which are a bit different. I’m still learning how transfer timelines work depending on the schools you want to attend, so I was wondering if there’s ever any room for appeals or petitions after a denial, especially if you’re flexible about when you transfer.

Has anyone here ever successfully appealed a decision or gotten into the program after initially being denied? I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences anyone is willing to share. Thank you.
