Cayton Center mess

Ive visited the cayton center like 2-3 times now and the things i’ve seen in there… I am utterly shocked that no one mentions it here and lots of students don’t know about what goes on there.

I saw an emo couple f**king on the couches near the AS office underneath a blanket and no one there cared. A girl got whooped by another girl at 9:30AM last week because they were fighting over a guy. And then you got the ping pong crew who take it extremely competitively that the air around the ping pong table always smells like sweat. Ive seen special-needs people making out while two elderly seniors who study at smc were vaping next to them. That entire place does not feel real and NO ONE talks about it!

USC sgr help

Help!!! i got a SGR from usc (i'm a freshman at smc rn) and i had a 4.0 last semester but calc 2 shane smith is something different!!!!

i did so well in his calc 1 class but right now i have a high C in calc 2, i think i can get a B hopefully

USC marshall calc 1 prereq has to be covered by calc 1 and 2 at SMC unfortunately, so HOW BAD would it be if i got a B/C in this class im so nervous

i had some personal stuff happen this semester that impacted my academics too but basically i'd have all As and oneB/C (probably 3.8 across all semesters)

am i cooked for USC?? please if anyone has any experience lmk😭

Physics 22 Prof Recommendations

Hi! I just graduated college and am planning on taking a few classes I need as prerequisites for grad school. One of them is electricity and magnetism with lab. I saw Physics 22 was accepted as an option to all the schools I’m applying to but the rating of all the profs teaching fall were pretty bad.

I wanted to see if anyone recommends any of the profs teaching fall and how the workload is because I’m going to be working part-time while taking these classes (will likely have shifts from 9am-6pm on days that I don’t have class) or if I should wait to take it next Spring, since I think the course catalog said it’s not offered winter.

Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

pre-reqs for biology classes

i’m trying to get started on the pre-recs for a nursing program i want to apply to & i need to take anatomy 1, physiology 3 & microbiology 1 but anytime i try enrolling in one of those classes it gives me an error message saying i cannot enroll because i have not completed the required prerequisites, but it doesn’t specify what they are!

does anybody know what classes i need to take before enrolling in those? do i need bio 2 or bio 3? a chemistry class? something else?

i also need to take psych 19 but when trying to enroll in that the error message specified that i needed to take psych c1000 first so im not sure why the biology classes dont tell me what’s needed too.

Professor Fendi He or Jesus Lopez for STATS?

I've been looking at the different options for STATS this fall and reviewing all the professors ratings.

The only two with openings that are well rated are Professor He and Professor Lopez. Looking for recommendations on who to pick.

I have always had a difficult time with math classes and I had a couple math professors at SMC that SUCKED AT TEACHING!!!! I can't afford to waste the time and tuition with a professor who will make learning harder than it already is.

Please help if you've had experience with either of them, I am going out of my way to take classes at SMC again to add STATS to my transcript as I am preparing for grad school programs that request experience with it.

Thank you all in advance <3

High school junior considering 1-year CC to UCLA transfer route. Is this realistic?

Hello! I’m currently a high school junior and seriously considering the California community college to UCLA route, since UCLA is my dream school and transfer acceptance rates seem much more realistic than freshman admission.

My current profile is solid but not standout for UCLA freshman admissions: 3.88 unweighted GPA, strong AP course load, decent extracurriculars, and I think I have a compelling narrative, but I just don’t see myself getting into UCLA or Berkeley straight out of high school.

I’m interested in pre-law, likely majoring in public policy or something related.

My question is about the accelerated transfer route. I’ve heard some students manage to transfer in just one year by completing the required credits quickly. Is that actually realistic for someone in my situation?

Also, since I’m still in high school, what community college courses could I take this summer through dual enrollment that would help set me up for that path? I want to be strategic and take classes that would actually count toward transfer requirements rather than wasting time.

Would especially love advice from anyone who transferred to UCLA for public policy / pre-law related majors.

Scholars Program acceptance date?

I just applied to the scholars program as a first year on May 8th or so. Its been a full week since I applied and I still haven't heard anything back. I've seen a couple of people saying that they got accepted just a few hours after applying so I'm getting a little worried. When is the most common time to hear back from the scholars program?

English 2 (Peeples R.A.) syllabus?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently enrolled in English 2 with Professor Peeples R.A., and I was wondering if anyone has access to the syllabus or can share some details about the course structure.

Specifically, I’m trying to understand how the essay exams work. Are they in-class timed essays, take-home essays, or something else? Also, how strict is the grading rubric, and what kind of prompts should we expect?

If anyone has taken this class before or has the syllabus, I’d really appreciate any info or tips.

Thanks in advance!

Is transferring w/o getting an associates a good idea?

So my planned major is Human and Health Sciences @ USC / Public Health @ UCs. But, none of those majors are offered at SMC. I talked to a counselor about it and they said it was possible to transfer without and associates but I was wondering if that gives you any disadvantages in the transferring process. My goal is to apply to USC this year and apply to the UCs next year if I get rejected from USC. I'm less worried about Private schools because the acceptances and requirements are different there, so I'm more concerned that it will harm my chances at top UC's like Berkeley and UCLA.

Has anyone opted for an EW, and got it accepted?

Hey guys! I wanted to take an EW for a class because it could bring my GPA down. I heard some people on campus who said that their EW requests were accepted, and it was pretty easy. Does anyone have any advice or tips?

Hey guys, I requested a P/NP in a class. Do I need to drop the class then P/NP? Or I only choose P/NP then drop the class OR I only choose P/NP as the option and wait? This is my first time doing it, so I just wanna be sure I'm doing it correctly. Thank you!

Is the academic comeback achievable

For context I got into Berkeley but need to follow the requirements. I’m taking Shane smith for calc 2 and due to some unfortunate series of events it prevented me from getting a good grade so far. Rn I have a 50 and I need 70 to transfer. I did the math and I need to mid 80s for my next test and final. Does Shane curve the final at all or am I cooked. Is he a chill guy? Would he round my grade if I got like alittle below a 70??

Edit: just for some extra details he’s fully aware I got into Berkeley and actually wrote my letter of rec for other colleges I applied to because I took him last sem

Soleymani math 7

I’m taking him in the summer but I’m not great at math. I was wondering if anyone still has his old notes and homework so I can review before taking it. Potentially exams/finals and/or mocks would be amazing too, but understandable if not!

Someone help a girl out 😭😭

Feeling a little bummed about the end of Spring Semester

Fall semester 2025, I’d like to say I did pretty good. I passed my classes;
Bio 3: A
Health: A
Sociology: B.

I was very proud of myself considering that my first year at SMC wasn’t so great. My first semester was Fall 2024, I took…
Math 7 (W)
English 1 (C)
Philosophy 1 (C)
Psychology 1 (F).

Then for my spring semester 2025, I took…
Biology 3 (W)
Anatomy 1 (EW)
Math 3 (EW).

In the summer I retook PSYCH1 and I got a B and I retook Bio3 in the fall and passed with an A. I was very proud of myself and I thought that this spring semester would be the same. Although, I may be wrong. I’m currently taking CHEM10, PHYSCS6 and ART10. I’m completely failing chem, I did not pass my last 2 exams and it will make a MIRACLE to pass this class with a C. I’m planning on sticking through with this class and hoping I get a C. If not, I’m okay with retaking it I guess. Physics is going well and so is Art. I really want to study nuclear medicine and hopefully get into a program. My main program is Gurnick Academy. My second choice is CSUN radiological science program. Although; I don’t know if I ruined my chances of getting in. How many retakes can one have until the programs think you’re a lazy bum? Feeling very depressed as of recently. I don’t even have the energy to study for finals. Why try? I feel like I’m running a race that already ended, and I’m continuing to run, knowing there is no finish line for me.

Drop/Withdrawl and SMCP

I am planning to drop/withdraw my class before the deadline, but if I drop it then SMCP is no longer eligible. I was wondering if it affects me in any capacity? I do not want to risk other factors that could affect me. If so, then I'll have to suck up the P/NP.

How did you guys pick your classes?

Hello, I am a new student who just enrolled but I am having trouble enrolling in my classes. I did the online orientation and when I clicked on the next step to enroll in classes, it was unavailable. So I had to look around and I came across stellic but it’s even more confusing. I tried booking a counselor on Corsair connect but apparently they are not available for the next week. I’m so lost. Has anybody else been in the same shoes as me? I can’t do in-person because I’m not in America and I absolutely cannot rely on my counselors at school. It is not an option.
