Hello, Beginner DM, what? (where to go from initially starting....)
Hi! I'm gunning to try DND for the first time with my friends who haven't played either. I have read the starter kit's rule book, I have a couple other reading materials, I have watched some videos + campaigns played too. I feel like I have an okay-ish grasp on how the game is played and going with the flow (with a fair bit of control)
Despite that, I'm kinda lost on the extent of how much I can go off from what's on regular old DND. What's considered free reign? Are there set items PCs can have or like... can I just make shit up? How much of the story can I just do whatever apart from the, I guess, DND world? What's considered full on homebrewing?
Other things to know? Like... stuff you haven't seen mentioned anywhere?
Thaaaakks for any help
