Should I be worried?
These are my first skates and i've been learning since may 5. If I pressed it hard enough, there's a small gap between the sole and the boot. I tried super gluing it but it didnt really worked.

Not sure what flair to pick so apologies if I picked the wrong one. I bought these skates a while ago off fb marketplace without doing any research and now that I'm practicing and found this sub I know they're really not the best. Are there ways I can improve these that don't cost a lot of money or should I just save up for some proper skates?
Hi! I used to skate as a beginner years ago and recently started again. I've got GAD and although I'm fine with going to the roller rink to practice, it's often too hectic since everyone's going relatively quickly and in a circle; I don't want to get in the way and want to practice stuff like stopping, turning etc.
I live right next to a big multi-storey car park and the 7th level is almost always empty with the exception of a few cars at the far end. I'm a bit nervous about going alone just because of judgement and also having my stuff taken. I'd need my bag with me to take my normal shoes in but wearing it while skating might be a bit heavy.
How did you guys get over the nerves? I know i need to just do it but it's easier said than done 😖
EDIT:
I went! It was completely quiet, no one came in at all. I was there for two hours practicing and I loved it, will definitely be going again
Thank you to those who helped out with tips to help me out. I think I might be getting a teensy bit closer now. You are a lovely supportive community x
Should I bother replacing these at total beginner stage? I am v lightweight and I read that the originals can be too firm (Yes, I know colour won't match but I don't care about looks right now).
Thanks.
These are a MASSIVE improvement over my impalas.
So I started skating last year and because of health issues I haven't skated since last winter. The first time I tried I fell and messed up my knee (don't worry I had on knee pads) and had to be off it for a few days. The second time I went to a tennis court and was doing well then fell and sprained my ankle. When I got better I took a few classes.
I'm feeling better now but I'm so afraid of hurting myself again. Not really falling but getting hurt and ending up having to be out of work. How can I get over this? I'll eventually go to lessons again but it's more convenient to just go to the tennis court when I have time.
ETA: I also wanted to ask if something was wrong with my pads since I fell and my knee still got hurt. I'd like some better fitting ones but it's hard because my legs are juicy.
Sorry if I used the wrong tag but I found these skates at Ross for only $30, I’m thinking about getting them but I’m not too sure if that’s a good idea. I’m a beginner and only tried out skating twice. (I plan to just skate at the rink every once in a while)
I can’t lie I just think they look cool but I tried looking them up and nothing came up for them. I’ve never seen skates (that aren’t little kid skates) at Ross before! Much less skates like these.
Any help/advice would be appreciated!
Hi everyone! My boyfriend wanted me to share my story here since it's apparently somewhat rare to break an arm while skating? I'm not sure, he's been at it for a while, and I tried it with him for the first time in 20 years this weekend! Let's just say I'm a little bottom heavy and have no balance WITHOHT skates on... long story short, fell backwards, my legs somehow flew out and up from under me, and all my weight went through my outstretched arm 🥲 needless to say, our second roller skating date also turned into our first hospital date! I'm definitely not discouraged and was still having a blast despite falling at least 6 times per session. I hurt myself our first time out, twisted my knee and ankle and had to pause for a bit to let the swelling subside. And the next time we went out I broke my arm RIGHT when I felt like I was finally starting to get a feel for things! Ah well, skating twice has led me to become more and more interested, and this long weekend together of skating so fiercely helped me snag a wonderful boyfriend! Not going to complain about any of it 😇 give me 12 weeks and I'll be back at it! This time with ALL the protection! Excited to be part of this fun group and track my progress once I can get back at it. Lesson learned: DON'T try to catch myself like that ever again
Edit: I heard my boyfriend wrong and hand/wrist/elbow injuries are NOT uncommon. I have a terrible memory 😅
Hello Friends!
A few years ago I bought skates and was learning how to skate and joined this amazing community for inspo!
But a few months later I started feeling a weird pull in my knee. After some doctors appts I learned I needed to get surgery for my meniscus.
Last June I got my surgery, but every time I think of putting my skates on and trying again I get scared.
Has anyone gone through this? How did you overcome the fear of potentially hurting yourself again?
I grew up skating and it was my happy place. I've re-discovered it the past couple years and have been going to a local rink regularly, usually with at least one of my kids. I have nice speed/jam skates and can keep up well rhythmically. I see all the same people there each week, the regulars, that seem to have their own secret club. I have zero friends that skate and feel like an alien. I've never spoken a word to any of them, or they to me, even on the rare occasion I get to an adult session by myself. Maybe this is more of a social anxiety thing, it just makes me feel lonely and I would really love to make skate friends. At my age it should be easier to reach out but I am shy and fear judgement so hard. Any tips or ice breakers?
My laces of my skate got undone and I tripped over them. Did a good slide and roll so my wrists are all good. Was wearing jeans and and it ripped my jeans 🥲
I fell with my knees turned in and now they both feel unstable and it hurts to walk. Urgent care told me it was ok though, probably just strained.
I forgot to ask when I can skate again but I’m guessing just whenever it stops hurting? For now I’m just icing and resting them.
I do feel like I saw progress during this skate session! I’ll just have to wait before I can build on it.
Update: tried sleeping and when I got up to get ibuprofen walking was an ordeal. After enough crying I was able to find a rhythm that didn’t cause more pain. Definitely taking off work tomorrow.
If anyone here has dealt with a similar injury I’d love to hear about it (particularly when and how you got back on skates).
I had purchased the Tropicanas (2nd pic), but sadly they were too big so I had to return and they still haven’t restocked my size. I woke up to the new drop today (1st pic) and ordered. Is there a way to get custom laces made that are like the ones on the Tropicana? Does anyone have a good site to order from? I think it would be really cool to do them in pink and green for the watermelon skates
I wear full gear, including tailbone, butt, and hip pads
I learned how to rollerskate on ridell derby skates but I am getting more into freestyle, spins, etc. i’ve been thinking about getting Moxi rainbow rider but I don’t know if the beach bunny one would be a better fit for me. any thoughts?

I found a pair of Bont prostars in my size for $150 on FB Marketplace. Super happy about my find, but now I’m realizing that they aren’t *parkstars*—they’re for roller derby! No heel, and no ankle support.
I’m used to skating on my Chaya Melrose. Could I use the prostars for park skating?? I’m still pretty much a beginner, but I’m starting to learn to grind / drop in / jump etc and I tend to skate relatively aggressively.
I’m not even sure if grind blocks/slide blocks will fit on there!!
If anybody has experience using prostars for street/park skating pls lmk!! Or any advice—would it be dangerous to use these, with no heel/no ankle support??
TYSM!
Hi! I started skating about a month ago now (I used to rollerskate when I was a child but only to school and back 🤣) I’m trying to learn toe spins but I’m finding it really hard to balance and continue spinning🥲 I find them easier when I do a little run up but I can’t do them from just stationary 😭is there anything I could be doing differently? Is it just that my balance isn’t great yet? Thank you!
I’ve had the Moxie Rainbow Riders for a few months and I’ve noticed that part of the liner is peeling, and it’s starting to give me a blister on the bottom of my foot. I’ve had this happen with a bunch of sneakers but it normally doesn’t bother me because I’m not relying on moving my weight horizontally so much. Any suggestions on how to fix this? I have looked into shoe glue but I don’t want to leave a hard edge that will make the blister worse.
Upgrading from Moxi fundaes, am wanting to get some skateboard wheels but bit overwhelmed with the choices. I tried on 52mm 99a on one of my skates and they do fit but couldn’t properly test them as I only had one set. Just a bit nervous going from the fundaes which are actually more soft than they market to a harder smaller wheel.
Originally wanted the 54mm 97a but found others that are 99a more aesthetic ..
Would it make much of a difference?
Most of the skateparks I go to are semi rough
