Word of caution for folks going for MBA this year

I got my post deleted recently about IIM Udaipur placement scene which is fine. I expected that. I understand now why I didn’t get any solid info last year.

But I’ll still urge folks to make rational choice for any MBA program this year.

Talk to people you know personally who have attended the program and know on ground reality.

Job market is tough, MBA is losing its shine because of negative network effects. Do make a careful choice before spending 20+ lakhs based on 2-3 year old placements data (which was at a time when companies were hiring rampantly)

The layoffs you keep seeing right now is mostly because of the over hiring and also some bit due to AI (although this is still an ongoing thing so can’t say much).

All things said MBA still makes sense given you just can’t get into some roles without an MBA as companies would keep it as eligibility criteria (unless you got some big jugaad)

[Incoming 2nd Yr IIMU] True reality of summer placements in IIM Udaipur

TL;DR - you're on your own. Placement Committee/Institute barely helps.

Some facts -

  1. Students placement committee got dissolved last year due to ragging of 1st year students and those students were not even rusticated.
  2. Big companies (Bain, BCG, Kearney, EY/EYP, A&M, Deloitte India, Amazon, TAS, Coca Cola, Loreal, Google, RB, RPG, Walmart, etc.) don't come for summers, so don't get hopes high.
  3. Don't get deceived by averages: Median Summer Compensation - 35-40K, Median Finals Compensation - 15-16 LPA
  4. Favoritism cases are there (but I guess that's everywhere): PCom pushing for their friends, partners, etc.

Some things I observed with my own eyes and ears:

  1. Only 8-10% students got placed in the first week (80K-2L (max, only 1-2 students) JPMC, Acc Strat, etc.)
  2. Next 30-40% students get placed in the next "3 MONTHS" (basically entire 2nd Sem) | 40-1L, mostly on lower side
  3. Remaining folks are literally left to fend for themselves since it's very random and internships are < 30K mass placement types. With some folks getting placed in random unheard companies, basically a useless internship. There's also 10K/probono internships. Even ppl with good acads and >2 years of experience stay unplaced.
  4. Institution provides no support whatsoever, there's CDPC (PCom) which just pretends to help you just to feel good about themselves.

Just hope this post doesn't get deleted.
