Thoughts on this book’s rep?

When I was in middle school I read the book “Every last word” by Tamara Ireland Stone and the story revolves around a teenage girl with OCD/intrusive thoughts and the new friend group she joins. There’s one particular friend she makes that turns out to (spoiler) be a hallucination in the end, and to make things worse she was actually the ghost of a former student the whole time. Even at the time I was disappointed and felt like it was kind of a weird trope, even though I hadn’t even been formally diagnosed at that point. The rest of the book does a fairly decent job at describing intrusive thoughts but I really dislike how it ends, it just makes OCD hallucinations seem like a spooky story plot device. I have never heard anyone talk about this book and I’m curious if others have the same opinion
