I made the Hall Effect Click Strum bar silent
Hi everyone!!
I was extremely annoyed by the click feedback of my Tribal Les Paul.
I know many of you enjoy the click feedback, but personally i like my gear as silent as possible, so I found a fix for my Les Paul and the difference is day and night.
So first of all, the frets themselves are fine. The tribal LP already comes with the rubber frets. I know, not as tactile as the easy glide, not as responsive as the mechanical ones, but silent and definitely still very good. That's a compromise I'm willing to take.
The clicky Hall Effect strum bar itself can be silenced without any soldering.
Here's how to do it:
What do you need?
- hot glue or fast glue, felt 1mm thick( or self sticking felt)
- a screwdriver
- tweezers
- a scissor
Remove the neck.
Remove the 4 screws where the neck is.
Remove all screws from the back.
Now you should see the dummy clicker that's making the (intended) clicking noise.
Remove the 4 screws.
The dummy clicker module also is holding the strum bar in the middle position, so we have to keep it, but can get rid of the clicker.
To do that, take the dummy clicker module and look closely on the two click elements. You can open these by carefully bending the plastic latches with your fingernails or a knife. Be careful not to cut yourself or to break these. Now you can pull the middle part out. The spring is now loose, so watch out to not lose it.
Push the moving green part in the middle out. Now you should see two bended metal pieces. Remove these with tweezers or a screwdriver.
Assemble the dummy clicker back together. Make sure the spring is inside.
Now take the felt, cut it roughly the shape of the top of the moving part, and glue it on top of that moving part, so the plastic of the strumbar and the plastic of the clicker no longer make contact noises.
Assemble everything back together.
There you go. Instead of the loud clicking the only thing left is a subtle dampened sound.
Keep on rocking!
