NAS Pensacola Naval Aviation Museum - did Jimmy donate any planes there?

I believe Jimmy's connection with the USS Alabama is well-known; after his passing, the Alabama revealed that two planes that had been donated anonymously were actually donated by Jimmy.

Also well-known was Jimmy's love for the Navy, Naval Academy, Navy Sailing, etc. He performed at the Pensacola Naval Aviation Musuem in 2011 for a fundraiser.

Does anybody know if he donated or funded restoration for any planes to the Naval Aviation Museum? I'm visiting the Gulf Coast in a few weeks and plan to visit the museum. If Jimmy had a part in any of the planes on exhibit there, I'd like to make sure I see those.

Summer Camp Campsite Inspections?

Does your Summer Camp perform Campsite Inspections daily?

I remember my scout camp growing up did daily inspections, but I've been to a couple around the country where it wasn't part of the program. Fire safety, latrine tidiness, camp scout skill innovations, the whole works.

On one hand, it's a hassle and constant push to the SPL to meet all the criteria if your Scouts aren't fully invested in shooting for Cleanest Campsite; on the other hand, it's a relief and one less "work" thing that has to be managed when we're trying to get out of camp in the morning to morning flags.

Parent of a student getting ready for college (Coverdell question)

I am a parent of a student getting ready to go off to college. Orientation weekend is coming up where they will register, pay tution/housing/meal plan/fees. They will receive a scolarship from the university that will cover about a third of the semester cost, with the remaining costs to be paid for by the family from a Coverdell.

As I understand it, the student is the benificiary of the Coverdell but I am still the Custodian. We plan to pay for the outstanding tuition/fees from our checking or credit card with reimbursement from the Coverdell. As I understand it, the distribution will be in the student's name on the 1099, we just have to demonstrate that it was for qualified college expenses when filing taxes.

Does this sound right so far?

I saw something somewhere about adjusted qualified education expenses - any wisdom on how that works?

Does the strap position change how you play your guitar?

I have two acoustics that I play most frequently. One has a strap button on the heel, the other does not so I have a strap tied on just above the nut. I play mostly standing up or if I'm sitting, I prefer to let the guitars hang from their strap rather than resting on my knee.

Being a gentleman of some size, I find that the guitar with the strap on the nut naturally hangs to the right of my ample gut, while the heel strapped guitar hangs over the center of my belly. I prefer being center-on, but the strap at the nut messes with my ability to fret the lower strings in the lower frets.

Just curious if you guys have the same problem, or how you adjust for it?

What a difference a millimeter makes?

(That's what she said)

I have two guitars that I primarily play - an Orangewood Morgan and a Yamaha F335. The Orangewood is my daily player, the Yamaha is my travel/camping guitar.

I absolutely love my Orangewood. It came set up from Orangewood, I've had it for about 3 years, and change the strings every 4-6 months. Plays like a dream.

The Yamaha sits on its stand and gets played once or twice a week, usually a little more if I'm getting ready for a trip. Change the strings about every 6 months or so. Bought it at GC on a Black Friday sale a couple of years ago, no setup other than the factory build.

The Orangewood sounds better to me, and I couldn't quite figure out why. The action on the Yamaha seems comparable, but it felt like I was having bigger problems muting strings with the Yamaha. So I asked ChatGPT why and the suggestion was that the nut width might have something to do with it.

  • OW: 44mm nut width according to specs
  • Y: 43mm nut width according to specs

So I guess my question is, does that extra 1mm really make a difference? In terms of string spacing it can't be more than eyelash difference between the positioning of each string - how is it that I can place my fingers properly on one, and not on the other?
