Spellcasting/Focus etc rolls aside from activating powers

Has anyone here dabbled with using spell casting skills narratively? as in besides activating a specific power? I am working on house rules for the Force from Star Wars in my game and would like to add a little more flavor to the skill. It will still be used to activate powers and powers will function the same way.

Starting Jedi Padawan Template

Does this character look ok? I used what I understood of rules as written for Second Edition Revised and Expanded. What powers would you suggest?

Dexterity 3D - Dodge 4D, Lightsaber 5D
Knowledge 2D
Mechanical 2D
Perception 3D
Strength 3D - Climbing/Jumping 3D+1
Technical 2D - First Aid 2D+2

Control 2D, Sense 2D, Alter 2D

Edit: Im not so much worried about the rules. Im pretty sure I got them right. Im asking does this look viable as a starting character? I understand the mechanics but haven't been able to play.

Melee Damage and Groups of Extras

I have two questions for you wonderful people of the internet.

  1. Am I interpreting the rules correctly? If I took a longsword and applied the Energy Weapon template to it from the sci fi companion, the damage would increase to Str+d10 AP 4 and Min Str would remain at d8. So if a wielder has a d8 strength the weapon would still deal 2d8 instead of 1s8+1d10 correct?

  2. How do you handle groups of extras? How many do you typically group together on an initiative card and how many make group rolls together? As in if you have 8 extras of the same type do you treat all as one unit? or split into two groups of 4 for example?

I am running rise of the runelords and combat so far has been a little easy and time consuming.

Struggling

I am struggling with habitual sin. You can probably guess what it is but I will spare you the details. It has been a problem for me for a while as many people say it is ok and I shouldn't feel guilty for it but I know in my heart that I should not commit this sin.
I am also in a wheelchair, I've been disabled since birth. At the same time I know that I am blessed because while I am disabled, I am independent, married and have a decent job.

I just saw a pastor equate disability to sin saying that the man at the pool of Bethesda was disabled because of his sin. Additionally my wife and I have not been able to conceive a child.

I know the answer but would feel better if I had it confirmed by others. My disability and our difficulty conceiving is not punishment for a sin I am struggling with right? I am taking all steps I can think of to stop.

How to make lasting big bads?

I recently ran a John Wick inspired SWADE adventure. I gave my player's 20 advances made some resilient extras and two "boss" characters that were modified copies of their character. As in they were wild cards with 20 advances. My players got the first turn and killed them in 2 rounds. Killed first boss on first hit, second boss rolled crit fail on his turn then died. They did made sure they couldn't be brought back. They did roll and fail soak rolls for all their bennies.

Without using Unstoppable from Pathfinder (limited to 1 wound per hit), is there anything I missed to prevent this from happening in the future? I know swingyness is part of the game but this is not the first time the opposition gets mowed down with little effort.

Additional uses for Destiny Points

I play a lot of ttrpgs and I was thinking about expanding some destiny point uses inspired by other games. What do you think of the following?

  1. This is more meta but I play Savage Worlds and my players love getting bennies (it's meta currency) for good roleplaying. While I know good roleplaying should be awarded with xp in this game I am also considering flipping a dark side point to light side. Do you think that would be too much of a game changer? I estimate 2-3 times per session tops.

  2. Spend 1-2 dark side points to send NPC reinforcements. Maybe 1 for minion, 2 for rival and 3 adversaries?
