Update on Tim after mismolt

Poor baby had a mismolt a week ago and lost a leg and had injured one. The injured one seems to be functioning pretty normally now and he’s climbing all over the place. He was struggling to catch flies for several days after he lost his leg and I was having to hold them while he ate and he’s brace himself on the tongs or the ground but he caught several fruit flies himself the Thursday! He’s back to acting more like himself with trying to be a little acrobat too. I was really worried so I’m so relieved, I love this little dude so much

Mismolt Help

My guy molted overnight and when I found him his leg was stuck in the shed. I gentle used a qtip to wet the shed and he was able to get his leg free. His leg is a bit deformed now. Will it recover after the next molt? Will he have any issues molting next time?

I got my babies on 4/25 and was to they’d be L2 or L3. I *think* this one is an L3 because it’s a bit larger than the other one I received. My girls named him Tim (obviously we don’t actually know if it’s a male or female yet but for rn we’re saying him lol) On Monday he ate 3.5 flies, Tuesday 1, and Wednesday .5 of a fly. Thursday and today he’s eaten 0. He’s been upside down a lot more yesterday and today, so is it safe to assume he’s going to molt and that there isn’t something wrong with him? I offered a fly yesterday and today and he showed zero interest yesterday and today he caught it took a nibble then dropped it. He’s climbing and moving around and grooming still. His humidity is sitting around 7% and the temp is 71.

I know these are a little on the big side for babies but one of my guys really seems to dislike the 32 oz cup so we upgraded to 4x4x8 enclosures. Do these look okay? I have LECA clay and activated charcoal at the bottom, mesh, and then coconut coir. I baked the sticks and glued mesh to the top. The plant is a clipping from my Frankie fittonia houseplant.

I know not to use metal, I googled mesh to sure and a lot of sources said to use fiberglass window screen. Before I glue that to the enclosure I want to make sure that it’s actually a safe choice for them.

Thanks!

I ordered a mantis kit to do with my daycare kiddos and I intended on keeping one and releasing one into my garden (I made sure the ones I ordered were native to my area) but they came this morning and I don’t think I’m going to be able to release one because I love them both already lol. I didn’t realize that the enclosure the kit came with was not safe for two juvenile mantises to live in so I ordered mini mesh bug enclosures and they’ll be here Tuesday so for now one is in the cup they shipped in and one is in the mesh enclosure they came with. Are these okay for temporary enclosures until Tuesday? Should I put a paper towel on the bottom of the mesh enclosure since it’s a clear plastic or is it okay?

Thanks!
