Legit casting insight: who could play Layne in a biopic?
OK so I just had an ephiphany. I always wondered who could have EVER depicted Layne in a biopic or something, but now I think I know who could do it. Just saw it for the first time and COMPLETELY saw it, Matthew McConaughey in the movie Frailty (2001).
Frailty-era Matthew McConaughey had:
- this gaunt, haunted Southern-Gothic intensity
- hollowed-out eyes
- quiet charisma
- strange gentleness mixed with danger
- and the feeling that he was carrying some private unbearable knowledge at all times
- thousand-yard stare
- spiritually burdened cheekbones, “there are things in this world people don’t understand…”
- fragile but intense masculinity
- intelligence mixed with damage
- vulnerability hidden under weird calmness
- and that almost ghostlike quality Layne had later on
