Does anyone know of someone in Australia who has a criminal conviction or has previously been in prison and was still granted AASW (Australian Association of a Social Work) membership?
I’m particularly interested in cases where the person disclosed their criminal history, including a spent conviction when required, and was still accepted for membership.
Is there anyone here in Australia who has a criminal conviction, has previously been in prison, and has still been granted AASW membership?
I am particularly interested in hearing from people who disclosed their criminal history when completing the AASW criminal proceedings declaration and still had their membership approved.
I understand the AASW removed its previous blanket exclusion relating to certain criminal convictions and now uses a declarations process to assess suitability for membership. I would really appreciate hearing from anyone with lived experience of going through this process. Lastly, did you disclose spent convictions also?
