not sure if i should go to er
i have had UTIs very often, especially in my teenage years. i know the signs my body gives me, burning with urination, urge to go when i dont have to. i take cranberry and d-mannose supplements and have been uti free for almost two years. i will occasionally have irritation if im dehydrated or if i run out of dmannose for a few days. i usually take one dose of azo and it’s gone by the time it wears off. i always tell myself i will get checked if it lasts more than a day. a little over a week ago i was in the middle of a big move and had that irritation on and off for about 4 days. i should i have gone to the doctor but it went away and i had so much going on, i decided to let it be. two days ago i was so lethargic, weak and fatigued. i had no other symptoms. then i developed a low grade fever (about 100 degrees). i remembered the irritation and did two at home uti tests. positive immediately. even though i had none of my usual symptoms! i went to the er (i don’t have a pcp here yet and urgent care was closed) i waited six hours to be seen, they checked my vitals multiple times and my temp was normal while there. i felt fine besides some back pain (but i was also sitting in an ER chair for hours) they test my urine and send me home with keflex. i’m on day two of keflex, still fatigued, but not as bad, no urinary symptoms, but a stabbing pain in my upper right abdomen that comes and goes. i’m concerned that they never did a CT or any other tests. doesn’t a fever usually indicate the infection spreading up? if so, keflex will most likely not work. i’m considering going back to a different ER. my symptoms are so on and off, i don’t know if it’s necessary. i am so afraid of kidney damage and sepsis. has anyone had a similar experience, how did it turn out for you?
