Please, please, please, brothers and sisters, read my post in full before responding. Even if you intend to ridicule and rebuff me. The point of this post is this. We have to start somewhere. It is better, much better, if all Somali’s were united under one flag. Especially, for security and wealth. We all share the same language do we not? Religion, do we not? Culture? We are so incredibly diverse, no? If we are so incredibly diverse, why not take advantage of it by becoming a confederation?

I am Somali. Mother is from Djibouti and father from Somaliland. Emphasis on Somaliland. Not my emphasis, but my father. He was an adult during the Somaliland War of Independence and was in Hargeisa during the Battle of Hargeisa. He saw his brother being shot. He watched his brother die in his arms. He saw those planes dropping bombs indiscriminately on civilians.

It pains me seeing such infighting among Somali communities.

It is clear and obvious from how diverse we are, we work better in a confederation, not federation. Power should not be centralised in Mogadishu. Mogadishu should not be the only capital. Regional capitals should too be recognised as capitals. We should consider have a winter capital and summer capital. Mogadishu and Hargeisa can share such role.

Federal Republic of Somalia should be renamed to the Somali Confederation. Or the Commonwealth of Somalia. These name change will better represent how diverse we Somali’s are.

The only areas that should be centralised is Defence, Education, Transport, Foreign Policy and Security. We can also create an office similar to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the United States, focused especially on corruption.

The role of the President should, like it is in Switzerland, be rotated between different elected regional leaders every year.

Somaliland seeking independence, and making actual steps towards it such as Israel’s recognition, can be used to advantage.

Mogadishu can recognise Somaliland’s rights to be independent. We can recognise their want to be a country. But we should only give Somaliland such desires if they remain within this new confederation. To be a country within a country, like the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

A council of tribes to be created. The council can have power similar to upper houses across the world, such as the Houses of Lords and the US Senate.

This council of tribes should have equal powers to another upper house. In other words, we should have two upper houses to balance one another.

Yes, there will still be infighting. Yes, such a political system will always be paralysed. But this is all intended. Planned. Eventually, after we tire ourselves, we will iron out these problems.

Even if you ridicule this idea, we are at least having a conversation towards peace in Somalia. And making small steps towards hopefully a united Somali country.

Dear moderators, please consider renaming this subreddit to Somali Confederation. Or the Commonwealth of Somalia.

Just had this sudden thought and question.

There have been times when I have been working on something critical and my cat(s) would walk across my keyboard or sit on my laptop for warmth.

Sometimes I see a pop-up confirming if I want to delete something such as a critical/production VM on vSphere or AD group or account.

Do you know of outages or mistakes caused because of pets?
