Had To Cancel Full Box Sub
Just want to make anyone based in the EU, particularly in Ireland, aware.
New customs charges take effect on the 1st of July for items shipped from outside the EU. The charge in Ireland, at least, will be €3 per distinct item, plus a handling fee of €2 (if charged by the delivery agent).
Anyone getting a full subscription box will be charged at least €15 extra per month. potentially €17 if they have to pay An Post rather than Illumicrate. The reason being that the full sub boxes include 4 unique fandom gifts plus 1 book. That's 5 x €3. Anyone getting a book-only subscription will be charged €3 (1 item only). If IC decide to add this to the charging at source, it's not a massive increase per book-only sub. Otherwise, the cost will increase by €5 per month, which you'll have to pay to An Post separately.
This new customs charge has been flagged for some time, but how it would be implemented was a little unclear until the Revenue Commissioners issued an update last week. I'd paused my June sub anyway, so I was able to cancel entirely without getting caught with the June box - boxes normally arrive a few days into the new month around here.
