Seeking Advice!
Hiya!
So, I'm a greek student soon entering my last year in school.
The plan:
I'm looking to study either Mechanical, Civil or Electrical Engineering (or even Chemical, though, it's more niche) in NTUA or AUTH, which are both quite prestigious universities (BSc + MCs integrated). I could also do Mining & Metallurgical or Mineral Resources engineering, but these branches are much more limited outside the resources sector so I'd like to avoid them.
Once I'm done with my studies, I'd like to get into the Australian mining industry as an engineer, since it's frankly fascinating to me.
I'm willing to settle in whichever city offers the best opportunities for this sector (I'm assuming Perth) and I am also fully open to FIFO opportunities. My English level is fairly good and I also have some pretty decent excel and coding skills (currently working for a Dutch-American company).
The questions:
Given the circumstances, what path do you think could make me more attractive to the Australian mining industry?
- Should I ideally do Mechanical, Civil or Electrical?
- - Should I get 1-3 years of on-site experience in Europe first, before attempting to move to Australia to work in the mines (Infrastructure, industrial maintenance, energy etc.)?
Or
- Pursue a Master’s in Mining Engineering in Australia (e.g. Curtin) right after my degree? This would probably introduce me to the recruitment pipelines more easily, but as international student tuitions can be expensive and it's quite competitive to get a scholarship, I would ideally like to avoid this path (still not totally out of the question however).
I'm open to any advice you lot can give me (including "not realistic" lol).
Thanks in advance!
