2016 Jeep Cherokee smells like propane

Hello all,

I have a 2016 Jeep Cherokee 3.2L

Recently have been smelling a propane scent coming from the front drivers side of the engine. It is most noticeable when I smell right below the windshield wiper on the drivers side when the hood is NOT open. Once I open the hood the smell isnt strong at any other spot in the engine. Ive smelled directly about where the cat is and can’t get a whiff of it. I’ve pulled the line off of the purge valve and can’t smell it there. I did have a coolant leak closer to the thermostat housing but that’s on the opposite side of the vehicle and have since fixed the leak and still get the strong odor. I’ve had a mechanic tell me it’s the catalytic converter but I’m not sold and since I live in NY I’d rather have more knowledge and other possibilities before I sink +3k into a carb compliant cat. other possibilities I’ve read is that heated differential fluid can smell like that and at one point I was stupid enough to have my front tires a different size than my rear tires, however everything I’ve found says the differential is in the back and the front is more of an electronic device. If anyone has any insight I’d greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
