Currently working on a job where the engineer has requested horn/strobes in the stairwells. I've never seen this before on any drawing or in any building I've serviced. There are many problems with this drawing but this is one thing that stood out to me. I don't really have a problem with it but it seems unnecessary. I'm not aware of any code against this besides the fact that I thought stairwells were often considered an area of refuge and I don't think a horn/strobe is a welcome addition to that.

In Canada by the way so referencing NBCC 2020.

I will also add this is by no means a large building. Two storey, 8 unit residential on second floor and commercial on main floor.
