Standing still and attacking a ward has a higher chance of being noticed than actually just ignoring it. People are so focused on first wave/camp that they don't really look at the map and notice that it went dark for a split second and then having vision again. This also works for when you go for a gank, standing still and attacking the ward enemy will see you, but if they are focused on last hitting they might not notice you right away or at least give you an extra 1-2 seconds of walk time.
