New to 40k and chose Space Wolves because space viking werewolves are objectively cool as hell.

I’m about as new as they come. I’ve mostly been the bloke hanging around my LGS looking at board games and quietly frothing over the cool plastic army dudes.

A mate finally convinced me to stop hovering and just pick a faction based entirely on what looked/sounded coolest.

Space viking werewolves. Decision made.

Since then I’ve been listening to audiobooks, reading lore, and making several purchases that I confidently described to my wife as “actually pretty cheap.”

So far I’ve picked up:

Space Wolves Army Set

Wolf Guard Terminators

Thunderwolf Cavalry

Logan Grimnar on Stormrider

Bladeguard Veterans (was told these wolf-up nicely)

So now I’ve got a pile of plastic, a colour scheme picked out, and a rapidly growing sense that I may have jumped in headfirst without knowing what I’m doing.

A few beginner questions for the Rout:

1. Weapons / loadouts

How do you decide what weapons to actually build these guys with?

At my level, should I just build what looks coolest and learn as I go, or is this the point where I should be thinking about magnets and future-proofing before I glue something stupid?

2. Building a decent army

I’ve bought almost entirely on “that looks sick” logic, which I assume is the correct way to start, but I also assume there’s a point where practical purchases need to happen if I actually want to play properly.

Have I accidentally landed on a decent starting core, or have I built the world’s most expensive pile of cool mistakes?

3. General beginner advice

Any general advice for someone completely new to 40k and Space Wolves?

Stuff you wish you knew when you started, common beginner mistakes, good habits to build early, units worth prioritising, things not to overthink, etc.

Cheers lads.
