Break time

Hello,

Just wondering if any other stores are like this.

Our management are saying that break time includes time time it takes to get to and from the break room. In my store it takes 5 minutes to get to the break room. So we basically lose 10 minutes of our break. Bearing in mind that breaks are unpaid so thats 10 minutes of my own time wasted.

If we leave the floor at 12, get to the break room at 12.05. We must be back down on the shop floor working by 12.30. We have been told if we don't do this it is gross misconduct and we can be fired. (Lovely managers we have!)

Are other stores this strict? They didn't used to be like this. There is a very negative atmosphere in the store at the moment.

It's also the same at the start and end of a shift. If you start at 10, you must be on the shopfloor at 10. So collecting a honeywell and connecting to a headset is not included in paid time, neither is putting them away at the end of the shift.

We almost always stay about 10 minutes later than the end of shifts. This can be due to late customers and/or taking the rubbish up and non-cat rails from the tills. Time which obviously isn't paid. All this extra unpaid time adds up, and we never get thanked for it, it is just an expectation to stay late.

I know it doesn't seem like much, but it just doesn't seem fair when these rules do not also apply to management.
