rules around taking stuff for free

wasn't sure whether to put this under question or staff discussion

can someone clarify the rules around being able to take stuff for free if it's out of date etc

I've been working at m&s for about a month and a half, and in my first few days of training on date checking etc I was told that I could take stuff if it's already been reduced and hadn't been sold that day. Now that I'm learning the ropes I'm starting to wonder if I should actually be doing that because like what if it should be going to charity? or what if I've accidentally been taking stuff that I shouldn't ?

to clarify I haven't been absolutely filling my bag with all the reduced stuff.. if at the end of my shift there's still stuff that's reduced and hasn't been sold I'll take maybe one thing per shift e.g. a pack of sausage rolls or a fotm sandwich nothing huge or expensive

thank you!

Interview???

I applied for customer assistant on foods, but they interviewed me for bakery???? I answered questions on being a customer assistant but I didn’t know about the bakery obviously. Maybe the interviewer got it wrong?

Application

I applied for an M&S job at a different store to one I’ve also applied to but because I’ve done the assessment thing it uses those answers. Now it says under consideration. Will I get an interview?

Application

I just applied to a customer assistant role. I’ve already had an interview at another M&S store but decided to also apply to this one. As I’ve already done the assessment and rightcheck it reuses it. It now says under consideration, what does this mean?

Waste Goals

Hi,

How much waste does someone have to miss before it’s flagged to the managers and a chat is required? I noticed on their system it says “colleagues to follow up”, so I was just wondering what the threshold was.

Unfortunate isle signage

Might just be the one I walked into, but maybe the order could do with changing.

Put A Lid On It

I have to say I love the M&S 3 for £8 range - those little pots with a great selection of picky bits and all of them I have tried so far have been amazing!

My one issue with them is with the actual pots themselves! I find it is difficult to get the lids to go back on them properly, the plastic is just a little too flimsy. Wasted a whole pot of Turkish peppers because I managed to spill them all over my kitchen while trying to replace the lid!!

I got a strange letter today saying I have an overdue payment of 0.00 and if not paid they will close my account in 14 days.

Overtime

I’ve just been offered an interview at M&S Cutty Sark but unfortunately the job listing was only for 12 hours a week. I’m kinda desperate to get a job for this summer so i’ve just been applying to whatever, but i’d prefer 20-25 hours a week.
I used to work at Primark and there was a lot of overtime available every week - I used to be able to double my hours just on overtime alone. Is this the same at M&S? Will i be able to regularly get about 8 extra hours a week of overtime or is this unrealistic?

Online payment declined - any issues with online payments?

Wonder if it’s just me or is there a wider issue with online payments?

Been declined few times, tried all different methods of payment

Bakery Stress

Almost a month ago now, i started working in the bakery at my M&S Foodhall. I enjoyed the first couple of days, as i was still learning etc.

I work the morning shifts, and i dread them.
The thought of having to get everything done by the time the shop opens stresses me out badly, i spend 90% of my time thinking about it.
I feel nauseous on my way to work, and drained when i leave. and then i spend the rest of my day stressing about my next shift in the morning.

I’m just wondering is it worth seeing it through? Will it get better or is it a sign that this job isn’t for me.

Any advice will help!!

What to do about racism in the workplace?

Its a manager and in a simplyfoods so it's very small and I can't avoid them. They say some honestly disgusting things about a member of staff who isn't white and treat them very obviously different to other staff. I've never heard anything good about BIG and they have not been helpful before so I don't feel safe reporting it, I don't think they'd fire or reprimand a manager in any way or care really.

.

What can I do about this??? (edited wording because I'm not the racist member of staff :( )

Plastics in Teabags

When I found out about microplastics in teabags, I searched for a brand that didn’t contain them. I started using M+S teabags: I bought some teabags a few months ago which said ‘COMPOSTABLE TEABAGS’, great!

I have been buying M+S teabags ever since, but I have noticed that they stopped putting the ‘COMPOSTABLE TEABAGS’ on their packaging… does that mean that they have swapped back to plastic teabags?
