Ranking Waitlists

Hey Everyone,

I was blessed enough to be waitlisted at a good amount of DO schools. I was hoping someone could help me with ranking schools in terms of the following criteria:

  1. I am hoping to come back to southern california or california in general.

  2. I want to either match IM or Gen Surg.

  3. Research should not really matter too much for me as I am on track to hit 40 Publications and 120 Research Items. I took two years off and really dedicated a lot of time to several labs from research institutes and was lucky enough to be a contributing author to numerous different projects.

The following are the schools I got WLed from and was hoping someone could give me some advice on which ones could maximize my chances with the hopeful criteria above.

NOORDA

Northern Colorado

LECOM - Erie

RVU-MCOM

Meritus

KansasCOM

IllinoisCOM

OrlandoCOM

I appreciate all of you and hope you all have a great rest of your weekend!

Research Output in OMS

Hey Everyone,

I hope you are all doing well. I was wondering how much weight research items and publications hold right before entering medical school. Currently I have 4 publications with 8 being accepted with revisions. I also have a combined research items outlook of 58 and am hoping for more on the way.

Unfortunately, all of these were done before I even got into med school and as such I am a bit worried that they may not count or may not be taken into consideration for residency as I am trying to match into a southern california general surgery residency.

That being said, I was wondering if I would need to continue the research grind that heavily in medical school or if I can start to taper off or if any of these would be taken into consideration in the first place.

Extra background: These research items mostly consist of national conferences in ENT, IM, Cards, Ortho, RadOnc, and Optho. There are some regional conferences and posters on there and when excluding those my research items drop to 45.

edit: It would also be helpful to state that I did an MPH during a gap year as well. Apologies for the edit.

Thank you all for the advice!
