Infuse 8.5 - Smarter Streaming

We’re excited to announce that Infuse 8.5 is available today, bringing new streaming options, better media server support, and a handful of thoughtful refinements to iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac, and Vision Pro.

This release introduces transcoding options for Plex, Emby, and Jellyfin, along with improved search results, media server updates, and enhancements to WebDAV and media server connections.

Together, these updates make Infuse even more flexible, reliable, and enjoyable to use with all your favorite videos.

Transcoding options for Plex, Emby, and Jellyfin

Infuse has long been known for its ability to directly play almost any video format, but there are times when streaming the original file isn’t ideal—especially when watching remotely, using a slower connection, or playing higher-bitrate videos away from home.

With Infuse 8.5, new transcoding options are available for Plex, Emby, and Jellyfin. These options allow Infuse to request an optimized stream from your media server when needed, helping reduce buffering and improve playback reliability when bandwidth is limited.

Direct Play remains the best option whenever possible, but these new controls provide added flexibility when a smaller, server-optimized stream makes more sense.

How to use transcoding

By default, Infuse will continue to play the original video at full quality when pressing Play, without making any changes to the video or audio streams. When a smaller version would be useful, you can long-press the Play button to access the new video Transcoding option and choose from a list of available transcoded versions.

If your server already contains multiple versions of a video you can also use this same flow and select the Version button from the list.

Also, if you prefer to have this prompt appear automatically when pressing Play you can adjust the Transcoding option in Infuse > Settings > Playback.

Improved search results

Search has been refined to provide a more consistent experience across all platforms.

Results are now organized more clearly and predictably, making it easier to find the movie, show, episode, collection, or person you’re looking for.

More improvements throughout

This update also includes a number of additional fixes and refinements. Be sure to check out the full release notes for a complete look at everything that’s new in this update.

Thanks!

We always love hearing your comments, feedback, and suggestions, so please feel free to continue the conversation below or in our community forum.

Thanks so much for using Infuse! 🧡

User profile switching fixed in tvOS 26.6 🙌

Apple has just released tvOS 26.6! This includes fixes for user profile switching which has been a bit buggy since the release of tvOS 26.4.

Installing this update is highly recommended for all users.

In most cases simply updating to tvOS 26.6 should resolve issues with user profiles. However, if issues persist after updating, you may need to perform one or more of the following steps:

  1. Remove and re-add the user profiles on your Apple TV
  2. Remove and reinstall Infuse
  3. Perform a factory reset of the Apple TV

Note: Apple says there are hundreds of security fixes in iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, and visionOS 26.6 so getting all other devices up-to-date is probably worth doing as well.

Adding and using secondary addresses

This feature allows you to set primary and secondary addresses for your Emby/Jellyfin servers as well as non-media server connections such as WebDAV, SMB, etc… This can be useful if you need to use different addresses to connect locally vs remotely, or have other needs.

Multiple addresses can be added and can be enabled/disabled by checking/unchecking them in the list. When connecting, Infuse will attempt to connect to the checked endpoints in order until it gets a successful connection.

You can access this screen by editing the saved connection or by long-pressing on the server icon in the Files section (or Apple TV Home Screen).

Hello from the Firecore Team 👋

Hi r/infusevideoplayer!

We’re excited to introduce this new official Firecore account. We’ve been following the conversations here and really appreciate the time people take to share feedback, report issues, suggest new features, and help other Infuse users get the most out of the app.

Our goal with this account is to be a bit more present in the community. We’ll pop in when we can to answer questions, clarify how things work, share helpful context, and better understand what matters most to Infuse users.

A few quick notes:

  • We’re happy to discuss Infuse features, feedback, bugs, playback questions, platform-specific behavior, and general ideas.
  • For account-specific issues, billing questions, logs, or anything involving private details, emailing us directly is still the best place to get direct help.
  • We may not be able to reply to every thread or comment, but we’ll be listening and engaging where we can.

Most of all, thank you for being part of the Infuse community. Whether you’ve been using Infuse for years or just discovered it recently, your feedback genuinely helps shape the app.

Looking forward to chatting with you all.
