I am so devastated to say that i lost all three my African dwarf frogs, my absolute dream pets my babies i couldn’t stop thinking about them talking about them i mean i really was obsessed and i loved them so dearly but i fear maybe i made many amateur mistakes.
I was told to get a master kit and so i finally did, i was hesitant on the price but now that they’re gone it’s an absolute must that i have the master testing kit, here are my results for the partial tank water they passed away in (i had done a 25% change the second i found both hymen and Meno dead)
Let me know your thoughts on their death?
I found hymen on the floor upside down not moving and it was clear she had passed, immediately i take her out and try and get some reaction from her but she had been long gone
Knowing dead frog could have meant something was wrong with the water i see chirus atop at the corners more often then usual, gently i hold her in my head but she swims and moves so very weak. I was so confused not seeing what it could’ve been, ammonia spike? But from what?
I very urgently took chirus out and all other things out, pulling up the wood and plants until i suddenly find my sweet boy Meno , upside down and absolutely coated in a fuzzy white cloud. Clearly not biofilm. I suspect it was chytrid? How could he have gotten chytrid? Oh how i feel so terrible i didn’t check him before putting him in the tank.
I am mortified and distraught but i try and save chirus while she’s still responsive but time had passed and she simply stopped moving.
- I sit their bodies all down on paper towels and examen their bodies. Nothing unusual- earlier i made a post concerned about hymens belly being a red tone wondering if it was a warning sign.
Meno has a VERY prominent red spot at the center of his chest i wish i took a photo but i was all over the place and i mean the fungus was just infused to his skin
Hymen body was no different
Chirus body was not different
I think hymen and chirus died from ammonia spike after menos body had been decaying in the back behind wood
About previous post- hymen’s seemed to grab some attention for the flakiness peeling from her but i assumed this was shed. I still believe it was shed, she must’ve stressed and kept it longer than usual.

I’m sorry for the post being so long but i am really mourning these babies, i don’t want to get any others for a while. I simply can’t replace them it just won’t be the same, they’re gone forever. Only lasted a month, i could’ve given them such a better life if only i had know
If only i had check on Meno after i noticed he stopped coming to eat. I hadn’t seen him in atleast two-three days but i mean i figured he was shy.
