Hey there,
I need the experience of some Tesla owners to understand whether my problem could be resolved by switching to a Tesla (I'm eyeing the Model Y).
I currently own a Lexus RX 2025, the plug-in hybrid model 450h+, and the experience has been pretty bad especially in regards to its 12V battery. Admittedly I don't drive often but I do drive it at least once a week for about 50km on average. After only 6 months of ownership its 12V battery has already died and had to be replaced. I was reading on forums that I'm unfortunately not an outlier. Another learning that put me off is that the 12V battery isn't charged at all when the main battery is being charged by plugging the car in - you have to turn on the car for that to work.
From doing some quick research it seems like Teslas are way better at managing the 12V battery and those are also Li-ion - not the same lead-acid AGM battery I have on my car. Li-ion ones seem to discharge way slower.
So, Tesla owners that have a similar driving pattern as mine and drive occasionally and not on a highway, what has been your experience with the 12V battery? Have you heard stories similar to mine with Teslas?
Teslas have a ton of embedded tech, so I imagine those should phantom drain like crazy the 12V battery unless Tesla has a completely different approach to managing it.
Thanks!
