What makes Godzilla endure through the decades so much more than other monsters?

Remember, Godzilla is over 70 years old. That's not a small number. To be culturally relevant even decades after your debut is no small feat; only one other gisnt monster can say they've been able to be relevant longer, and that's the one more or less carrying the Monsterverse now.

But have you ever wondered what makes Godzilla *last?* If you've ever watched MST3K or simply delved through the immensely long list of monster movies, there's no shortage of them. Yongary, Gappa, Gamera, so many others that if I named them all then we'd be here for months.

But Godzilla? Still there. Still popular (whether it be for mockery or genuine love), still making movies, still recognized by name right off the bat. I could stop anyone on the street and say, "Hey, you know Godzilla?" And they're gonna say "Hell yeah I do."

How does one character manage that, especially in an industry that eats up material and spits it out instantly? What is Godzilla's special 'thing' that makes people want to keep coming back?

Edit: no, not just because "he's cool." There's more to it than that.
