Minoxidil for female with androgenic alopecia.

Hi guys,

I’ve been dealing with androgenetic alopecia for a while now, and it’s been getting worse over time. I started using liquid minoxidil and sticked with it for about 5 months (although I skipped a few weeks here and there). While I did see some improvement, I really didn’t enjoy the experience. Even though I was only applying it once a day, the stickiness and greasiness, even if mild, weren’t pleasant at all.

Looking back, I think I took the progress for granted because I didn’t like the texture or the appearance of the new hairs. So, I stopped using it about 5 months ago, and now my hair is thinning again in a way that’s honestly quite frightening.

I discussed the possibility of taking oral minoxidil with my dermatologist. Although he was initially hesitant, he eventually prescribed it. However, after reading through the list of potential side effects, I’m feeling pretty scared about starting it.

I wanted to ask whether any of you have had a better experience with the foam version compared to the liquid. Do you think it’s worth giving minoxidil another try in foam form before moving on to something potentially riskier like the oral version?

For context, I also have Hashimoto’s and PCOS, so I’m not exactly excited about adding yet another lifelong medication to the list. 🫠🫠

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences!
