Hi all,
I’m using an MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk WiFi with a Crucial T705 2TB (double-sided PCIe 5.0 SSD).
I plan to keep the stock motherboard M.2 heatsink (EZ clip system, no screws) and replace the thermal pads with higher performance ones (likely Gelid GP-Ultimate 120x20, but open to suggestions).
Since the EZ clip applies less pressure than screw-mounted heatsinks, I’m concerned about getting the correct pad thickness and proper contact.
Questions:
- What thickness are you using (top and bottom) with this board or similar MSI EZ clip systems?
- Did you go symmetric (1mm/1mm) or mixed (e.g. 1.5mm top / 1mm bottom)?
- Any real temps with PCIe 5.0 SSDs like the T705?
I want to avoid poor contact due to low pressure or pads being too stiff/thick.
Firsthand experience (especially with this board) would be really appreciated. Thanks!
