Lawyer in Maryland - Future Public Defender
Hi all, I have a dream of becoming a PD. I wanted to become one out of law school, but it didn't work out that way. I am currently working at a nonprofit doing primarily family law litigation.
I want to try again at applying to become a PD. How can I make my application stand out? PD jobs here in Maryland are very competitive. Ideally, Montgomery County, Howard County, Prince George's County, Howard County, and Baltimore City would be the counties I'd love to work in. But, I NEVER get a call back ugh!
I get the automated video interview, but haven't been able to move past that! Here are my creds:
trial practice in law school. plus 3 public defender internships.
trial team. winning a trial competition.
currently almost bilingual (Spanish). At a conversational level, but anticipating fluency within a year.
Newly admitted to practice law. (About six months. Passed the bar exam this past July)
Any advice would be very useful. I haven't been calling any of the offices to speak with anyone or offer to come in person. Would this be useful for me, or be annoying? LOL!
I feel like I can't settle into learning the practice of law, because family law isn't where my heart is.
Thanks in advance!
