The future of total war has never been more exciting
First and foremost.
40K in creative assembly hands is basically a dream right off the bat.
Secondly,
This IP is absolutely massive. The 40k fanbase is absolutely massive. The modding scene for this game will go absolutely nuts. The 40k community is a very dedicated bunch.
Most importantly,
We are getting a brand new engine. The foundation of total war itself with this IP will bring so many amazing challenges and innovations for total war. CA is laying the very first stepping stones for a WW1 or WW2, Star Wars... etc.. any number of heavily ranged focused IPs/Historical conflicts into the realm of possibility.
Watching the gameplay demo I couldn't help but notice how happy and excited the devs seemed to be working on 40k. I know devs get excited about showing the world their project but idk I sensed some kid on Christmas morning level of giddiness to them showing off their gameplay. They were just laughing and overflowing with joy. This is very clearly a passion project for their team, even more so than fantasy was. Who can blame them who wouldn't want to bring their miniature armies they have in real life to LIFE.
CA is sitting on a money printer. The sheer amount of DLC they can add to this game will be staggering. This seems like a incredibly healthy move and it's amazing as they are only strengthening their relationship with GW. It's very likely we will see GW model releases alongside CA DLC reveals. How cool is that!?
I myself am not the biggest GW fan in the world as I've sunken most of my total war hours into rome, shogun, and atilla. But I mean come on. Machine guns in total war? Sectors of fire? Dudes taking cover while artillery blow their heads off and orks ripping dudes arms off. Can you just imagine how cool Tau or Necrons will be in this game. Also modern / automatic weapons bring such a crazy level of chaos and asymmetry to the warfare.
I know I know.... be cautiously optimistic but lets pretend the game just completely flops (which is hard to believe considering the money potential behind it) you really think the 40k modding scene is really just gonna let this be a bad game?
This games future looks bright and I look forward to more to come.
EDIT: I have used psychic energy from deep within the warp to look into the future at 40k mods for this game some of which include
True Lasguns, Better Cadian Faces, Useful Transports, Bigger unit scale, Horus Heresy total conversion, More Troop Model Diversity, Smarter AI Cover, Full Army Painter Unlocker, Longer Airstrike Cooldowns, corruptible space marine chapters, kroot standalone faction, (insert whatever you dream of here)
I truly understand the hesitation. I was there and bought Rome 2 at launch but to think this game won’t be great just seems like more mental gymnastics than just assuming it’ll eventually be fantastic even with some hiccups here or there.
I think just the fact there will be an Army painter people will utilize the game as a tool to get a visual of their real life miniature color schemes. People are going to buy this game for that alone.
What am I suppose to do? Boot up another round of stellaris or rimworld in my never ending sea of steam games I’m never going to play? If this game is unplayable at launch the masses will crowdsource a mod team to get it up to speed. The momentum this game has is different than a traditional total war, this ship is sailing even if its mast is on fire and leaking everywhere.
