Is there any realistic chance that Creative Assembly & Games Workshop introduce their own "Grand Narrative" style event to TW40K in the future? Would that even be something people want?

Just curious 🤷 this is my repost from somewhere else, didn't realize this sub was already made lol.

Is there any precedent for that kind of thing in the Total War Fantasy franchise? I'm not familiar with its history.

I already know GW has a history with narrative driven tournaments via tabletop, and Battlefleet: Gothic (I think??). It just seemed like something that wouldn't be out of the realm of realistic BUT OBVIOUSLY LONG TERM, NOT RELEASED ON LAUNCH goals for the game. I'm not thinking a narrative as lore changing as the 13th crusade, though perhaps something with a similar format?? Where they compare Total war games and Battle Fleet Gothic (or some other game IDK) to each other and see who wins.

Though just using the game + tabletop could be interesting as well and may be easier, I was just thinking using two videogames together.

Especially if there's success similar to SM2, it could be an avenue for GW to guide more casual Warhammer fans into the GW space. If video-gamers were able to conceivably change the setting in some miniscule fashion, I'm sure they'd be more willing to wanna pick up lore books and perhaps codexes for tabletop.

I ask if people would want it, because it would take a lot of investment and maybe could be too taxing for an experiment like total war 40k

Please add battlefleet gothic armada to the game.

Battlefleet is at par and at same workings as a total war game. I saw in the vids that there is planetary or solar system levels action, it makes complete sense to add battlefeet type fleet battles as well

I need to WAAAAGH so badly bro, I'm feigning!

Everytime I play Darktide or Space Marine 2 or hear more bits of 40k games, all I can think of is the urge to just wanna grab the boyz and tear it down!

"As part of the dlc! these space mari-" WAAAGHHH!

"IN THE NAME OF THE LEX-" YOU'Z GONNA GET KRUMPED!

"Chaos will subsume all!" NOT IF GORK AND MORK SAYZ SO!

SBTeef was a great Ork game but I need MORE! I want to keep fighting Imperium and Chaos while chatting shit and getting drunk, it just doesn't feel the same when everyones just miserable or prancing about a higher purpose when the most fun experience comes from talking shit and slapping things.

Man I need totalwar40k now, or more Orc stuff for warhammer 3. DANG!

Fell in Love With the Lore, Now I Need Help With the Game

I bought Warhammer III a few days ago, and almost immediately I became so intrigued by it that I knew I wanted to really get into this series. I finished the prologue a couple of days ago and was excited to jump into my first proper campaign as Karl Franz and the Empire, but then reality hit me—I was completely overwhelmed. I've got thousands of hours in Rome II and Three Kingdoms, so I went in thinking a lot of that knowledge would transfer over, but it really didn't. Even fighting skeletons wasn't going the way I expected, and I struggled with the battles, couldn't get a feel for the Empire's units, and nothing seemed to click. Instead of forcing myself through it, I decided to take a different approach. I went ahead and bought all the DLC, along with Warhammer I and II, because I already knew I wanted the complete experience if I was going to dive into this series. Yesterday was my day off, and I spent almost the entire day reading the lore, starting from how the Old World came to exist, learning about the different races, their history, the gods, and I just kept falling deeper down the rabbit hole. I can honestly say I'm completely fascinated now. So far, the Empire and the Dwarfs have easily become my favorite factions from a lore perspective, but the problem is I still can't actually play very well. Battles are by far my biggest struggle. I feel like I'm making every possible mistake, and I know Warhammer isn't just historical Total War with a fantasy skin—that's probably exactly what's throwing me off. I really want to get into this game and this universe because the lore has completely hooked me, and I can already tell this is a world I want to spend hundreds of hours in. For those of you who were once in my position, what helped everything finally click? Should I stick with Karl Franz and learn through the pain, or would another campaign be a better introduction? And what are the biggest mistakes that historical Total War veterans tend to make when they first jump into Warhammer III?

Surely, we're up next for an update stream?

Medieval got a stream 4 days ago talking about their progress and WH3 9.0 + End Times stream is on now. Crossing my fingers that we're up next. We already saw a glimpse of battle gameplay so I hope we they showcase some of the campaign map gameplay soon!

Custom Game mode for 40k!

I shared the link a few weeks ago on r/Warhammer40k, but I've been working on my custom game mode, so there are a handful of updates! Couple that with 11th Edition, and that brings me to this post.

I'd like to ask you, the community, for input on the game mode! Below is the "Lore" for the game mode.

Terror of the Warp -
Caught inside a rapidly deteriorating warp-pocket, made up of your previous battlefields, build and break alliances in this fast-paced game mode. As the warp has grown unstable due to the death and destruction wrought by the armies battling across the cosmos, tendrils of chaos have been sprouting up across countless battlefields. These tendrils have been pulling in units, characters, and anything else unfortunate enough to be caught in their path into the warp. Reports from the few survivors of this anomaly suggest that there are safe zones that collapse around specific points, and if you can make it there in time, the chance that you may live to see another day. but more importantly that that untold power may be earned...

Let me know your thoughts and Happy gaming!

Is Total War: Warhammer 40k going to be worth buying if I am not interested in the campaign?

I know a lot of people will probably disagree with me regarding the campaign. I love RTS games but I really do not like Total War campaigns because its turn based and a lot of the gameplay is managing resources and lands.

To me, that is not really a true RTS aside from the actual battles.

I have played Total Warhammer 3 and I pretty much only play custom battles, which I enjoy a lot because I love Total War battle scales.

I've tried the campaign multiple times in Total War games and to me it feels like it is 80% campaign and 20% battles.

My view on this is that for core Total War players, that 80% campaign map is what gives the battles meaning, knowing that if they lose a specific fight, an empire they spent hours building might get completely wiped out or take massive losses due to a battle.

But for me, that 80% management loop just feels like turn based homework keeping me away from the battlefield.

Is Total War: Warhammer 40k going to be worth playing just for the custom and multiplayer battles?

I already plan on buying Dawn of War 4 since that is more my type of RTS, but I just love the massive scale of Total War battles.

Custodes- Separate Faction, or maybe just units within Space Marine

Curious on everyone's thoughts on the likelihood of Custodes being in the game, and if so in what form. Separate from the Space Marine Faction or perhaps just units obtainable within the tech tree? Maybe via a special Legendary Lord? Regiment of Renown?

Do you think there will be unique buildings allowing for special units?

So, I was thinking, hoping, that not unlike how certain settlements are "savage orc" settlements, or certain regions have a higher % chance of giving chaos giants to the recruitment pool in warhammer 3, that in 40k, a say jungle world, would have a building chain for Catachan Jungle fighters.

It could also function more like in shogun 2 ressources.

You could have:

Holy place: Less corruption, let you recruit Adepta Sororitas, to give you access to some heavier infantry, with decent range, have flamers for anti cover, something lacking in the imperial guard roster. Maybe also let you recruit a priest as a hero, boosting morale, both Sorotitas and priest could give suppression resistances aurora, again giving you guardsmen more chance on the offensive.

Jungle worlds for Catachans, who would have better charge, better melee defense, even better bonus for being in woods/jungle, also closing a hole in guardsmen army abilities, close quarter fighting.

There could be assassin temples, allowing you to hire anti single target heroes.

There could be forge worlds, that you need to build titans/stompas and baneblades.

Hive worlds that allow you to recruit cheap ganger units, with crap morale but decent in melee, maybe allows the army to raid better. Maybe they could reinforce from the ground directly in the map, rather than from the side. They could have vanguard deployment.

Penal worlds that allow you recruit even cheaper penal troops, maybe they could cost population to hire, rather than "gold".

There could be limits to how many special units you could buy or field in an army, and other than the battle sisters, they would have downsides as well, and not just be a straight upgrade.

There could be priest of Mars settlements and let you recruit a priest to boost your machines.

As army abilities and strategems seems to be a large part of the game, rather than spells in fantasy, these unique building chains could also open up for some of those.

Holy worlds could give benefits to morale, clear suppression status or something. Penal worls could let you sacrifice health from a broken unit to make it rally. Assassin's temple could let you poison single entities. Forge worlds let you repair machines, or restock ammo.

It's my impression that the "world map" is more unknown, or made up for this game, unlike warhammer fantasy. Which would mean the exact locations could be semi randomized.

Many of the unique buildings/locations could in time become their own factions/DLCs, but could start out as a few units you can get access to.

I think this mechanic would give your sandbox play some replayability and open your campaign to more interesting choice, in which way to expand.

What could be something similar for other factions?

Having four factions on release could be an issue.

After coming from warhammer 3 it’s going to be a shock only having four factions in the game. I don’t even really mind only being able to play four factions. I’m really concerned about it from an enemy faction perspective. Like you’re going to only have 3 other factions you fight. Technically you’ll probably be able to fight your own faction but it’s hard to imagine that happening often. The orks will probably fight themselves more often but it’s hard to imagine Aeldari doing it frequently. That’s not even taking into account the imperial factions who will probably not be fighting each other often either. If you play space marines that will mean you will almost exclusively be fighting only two other factions. Each army will also be the least diverse till they get dlc.

I’m really hopeful they put out another faction shortly after launch to help with this. Maybe they’ll also make mini campaigns for things like the Badab war to have those imperial vs imperial fights more often and have orks and Aeldari as background enemies to fight for diversity.

Edit: To clarify I mean 4 races or whatever term they will use in this game. I assume there will be multiple sub factions per race.

THE BIG SUMMER PREVIEW SHOW This Friday!

The Big Summer Preview Show is happening this Friday June 26th (check poster for local times). I am curious if we will get any Total War information. The developers had previous said that we would be getting more information at the end of June and this seems to be the perfect time for them to drop some good stuff!

Fingers crossed, no way they drop a release date… right?…right?

Edit: It was brought to my attention that the likelihood of any Total War information dropping at this event is extremely unlikely. Thanks to all those that politely let those of us know who were unaware that this is primarily a tabletop showcase!

Cheers!
