Dumbledore: the puppet master?

I’d be curious to hear the community’s thoughts on Dumbldore’s strategy and his role in Harry’s life.

I know a lot of people see Dumbldore as someone who simply used Harry for his own goals and recklessly gambled with other people’s lives. Snape’s line about “raising him like a pig for slaughter” clearly reflects that interpretation too.

Personally though, I’ve never fully agreed with that reading. I don’t see Dumbledore as some cold, malicious puppet master who deliberately manipulates everyone around him. To me, there’s an important difference between sacrificing someone and simply failing to save them.

That’s why I’m interested in how others interpret Dumbldore’s relationship with Harry, as well as his relationships with the people around him in general.

Edit: Wow, guys I’m genuinely impressed by the depth and intellectual substance of some of the responses here. It’s honestly a pleasure to read your comments.
