Why did Machiavelli say that societies are ruined on account of women?

I read book three, chapter 26 of Titus Livius and I’m aware of what Machiavelli is trying to convey, but I’m quite confused on how he conveys it. Why does he list examples of conflicts being started by men over women ( one case includes a ruler raping a woman) and then follows up by stating women are the cause of destruction. Of course fault isn’t inherent to cause, but the framing is quite odd to me, especially considering how this chapter is misconstrued online.
