Hey, I am currently a first year uni student receiving YA. My aunty passed away a couple months ago and left me part of her inheritence. It is not a crazy amount but I am worried it will negatively impact my payments. I am fully independent and can't rely on my family to support my degree/accomodation so YA really helps. Originally, I was planning to give/gift the money to my brother as an unofficial loan (in return he was going to pay my hecs off after my degree). However, I was told that even if I was to give up the money, centrelink will still consider it as my asset and cut my payments? Has anyone been in a similar situation or have ideas about what I should do?
