I would be receiving $1397.95 tomorrow (July 6th) as FTB supplement but because i owe centrelink money they are taking the entire payment to go towards my debt. Thing is, i could really use this money right now. If there’s a way i can stop them putting the entire payment towards debt repayment please help me.
I receive DSP am I to pay tax on that? I've been on it a few years and nothings been said. Until recently I was told you spose to do a tax return even on the pension? Yes or No. Thanx alot
I recently applied for dsp for my autism level 2 and am wondering if I will have to work on it as I am under 35, can’t seem to get a straight answer from google so hoping you guys can give me some clarity :) 🙏
So I just finished paying off my advanced the max I could get 1'600 it says I may be eligible for other one in a?couple days , I know that I paid it within 6-7 months January to July I was just kinda wondering since I got the max ammount as I did the advanced after I got the backpay
Am I eligible for other advance or do I have to wait till next year again?
Hi guys, this is the first year I will receive FTB and just a bit unsure of how its works. I lodged my tax and am under the impression that any FTB owed is balanced after partner and I lodge our returns. Can someone please confirm if this is correct?
I am trying to apply to AuStudy, and am needing this form for a job I left in November 2025. I don’t particularly want to try and get in contact with this employer and am unsure they would respond even if I found their email. I don’t have access to my final paychecks as they have voided my logins.
Is there a way for me to proceed without doing this form?
Hi everyone,
I'm a bit worried about my JobSeeker payments and was hoping someone might have had a similar experience.
I'm a full-time master's student. I called Centrelink previously to let them know that I was studying full-time, but Iater still granted JobSeeker Payment. I've been receiving it for around six months.
During that time, I completed all of my mutual obligations (job applications, appointments, reporting, etc.) and never intentionally provided any false information.
I'm now worried that Centrelink might later decide I wasn't actually eligible and raise a debt against me.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? If Centrelink made the decision after I had already told them I was a full-time student, is it still possible that I could end up owing the money back?
Thanks in advance for any advice or experiences.
Hey, we’re due to have our first baby in 25 ish days and I’ve started the parental leave application. I’ve just got to income and it wants the previous tax year which has only ended a couple of days ago.
My info linked through ATO says “not tax ready” and my company also sent an email saying there was a lodging error and to hold off doing taxes as the info is getting re sent.
I’m obviously happy to wait to do my taxes but I’m not sure I can wait to do the PPL form as my husband is going to take some of his days about week 5 of the babies life.
Has anyone come across this before and did you just submit the info you had? Or is it best to wait?
We obviously can’t finish the full application without a brith certificate but I was hoping we could get pre approval if that’s a thing to make sure he can get his days in time.
Thanks in advance
I'm on jobseeker payment, using workforce Australia I hit my points target fine, but there is still an "urgent" popup saying
"Activities to build your skills and knowledge
Now you've been using Workforce Australia Online for a few months, it's a good time to do an activity."
Do I still have to do an activity even though ive hit my points target?
Hi
I have been looking at preparing my tax via MyGov and can’t see where my income has been pre-filled in.
I know it sounds silly, but can anymore point me in the right direction.
When I hit prepare 25/26 return, it brings up page 1 with my personal details and then has my bank details and what deductions etc, but I cannot see where my income details are.
I hope that makes sense.
Any help much appreciated.
"Your employer said you chose to leave the job on (date)."
WELL THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I BLOODY HEAR OF IT.
"You must provide details to support the reason for no longer working. Details of what happened:"
Honestly I'm a quite lost for words. What do I even tell Centrelink? I did not choose to leave this job - I loved it.
NOTE: I am only looking for responses that address this specific set of circumstances, please. Not advice for the more traditional/common application process. Thank you. I primarily want lived experience stories, but I welcome responses from Centrelink workers also, or partners of people who have been approved.
I have a long history of medical exemptions, DES and ESAts. Centrelink left me completely alone for over a year after I was exited from DES and have not onboarded me with IEA.
I received a letter this week saying they have independently conducted a JCA (not an ESAt) on my medical history with them, and I am deemed below 8 hours capacity and have no requirements for the foreseeable future. I have a phone participation appointment with them week after next.
I then received another letter saying they believe I am more suitable for DSP than Jobseeker, encouraged me to apply, and saying they have so much history that I don't need to ask my medical team for any documentation (my whole team has been long aware I intended to apply for DSP and all are prepared to write letters for me.)
I'm pretty across the traditional DSP application process (impairment points, diagnosed treated and stabilised, the specific wording my practitioners were supposed to use, JCA, Sonic and so on.)
What I'm unfamiliar with is doing it the way they've advised. Don't get me wrong, I'm feeling like I've hit the jackpot a bit here, but I still would like to know what to expect.
Did you still do another JCA, Sonic, and so on? Did you have to submit ID (birth cert and a physical visit to show your licence), three-month bank statement etc? Or were you approved based on your application form alone? How long did it take to get approved/rejected?
I'm not assuming I'll get approved, I'm aware rejection is a possibility and will appeal if I have to, but I do take this letter as a very encouraging sign.
Thank you.
Hi Reddit,
Hopefully this is okay to post - mods please let me know if I've misinterpreted the rules!
I launched a federal petition to ask the government to grant additional leave to parents with premature babies, and I thought I would share it here. I myself am the parent to an ex 28+5 weeker who is already back at work when bub is only 4 months corrected, and while I'm lucky enough to have family that can take care of my baby to keep her out of daycare too soon, not everyone has that option, and I think the system needs to do more to protect these particularly vulnerable families.
If you could sign and share it around yourselves (AU residents only I believe) it would be appreciated!
Hi
Despite reading everything I can, I am still confused around TPD, what is income and taxable and how it affects Centrelink.
For example, my tpd was approved and is currently sitting in my super. I need to withdraw about 30k to pay for medical, lawyers, bills.
I have previously taken out 20k and my super company took a small amount of tax out and sent me the balance. I think of that 20k, about 6k was taxable and I paid around 1.5k in tax.
So if you are on job seeker for the whole year, will your income be the 22k, plus the 20k taken from your tpd? Or will it be 22k plus 6k (the taxable part of my Tpd payment)?
I know the ATO and Centrelink look at Tpd differently, so what figure would Centrelink be looking at, and why? Ie is it to determine your income/assets?
Centrelink talks about tpd and exempt and non exempt payments, but don’t really say what they are. Eg is paying a medical bill exempt or not? None of the monies to be taken out will be used for investment purposes. How do they even know what you spend the money on?
Any insights?
Both withdrawals will come straight into my bank account and then straight out again to pay outstanding bills.
So confused. Do have an appointment with a financial services provider.
Have posted under finance too.
If a student aged 22 is finishing their University degree and has been on a partial Youth Allowance Student (working part time and getting part payment) how does the transition to Job Seeker work? Assume they need to let Centrelink know when their course finished (mainly practical placements this year and no exams so not sure of the correct end date?) and then do they need to make a separate application for Jobseeker?? Or does it somehow transfer automatically?
They will continue in their part time job (generally around 10 to 15 hours a week) and have some savings from work and from memory there was a liquid assets waiting period for Centrelink payments (I think up to 13 weeks??) if applicant/student has over $5000 in their bank account?
Depending when and where they (hopefully soon) find employment they may need to move so would like to keep funds aside for Bond and 4 weeks rent in advance plus moving and set up costs as opposed to living off their savings for 13 weeks and then potentially not being able to afford to re-locate. If there's a waiting time before the application is processed and Youth Allowance has ceased, they will also obviously need/use the savings for expenses in the interim.
All experiences, advice, hints or tips appreciated.
I missed my appointment on a Tuesday and was told my payment will go in hold in 5 business days. If I report on the Tuesday following week to be paid wenesday will I get my payment as the next Tuesday would be the 5th business day?
We were together for about 70% of the year. I have started to claim SPP and FTB. Usually I get a bit back from FTB and CCS due to overestimating our incomes but this does not happen until we have both completed our tax returns.
What happens if he decides to not do his. He has said as much as he does not want to pay child support.
So where does that leave me with my end of year balancing?
i work a job alongside receiving youth allowance and no one informed me when i got this job (it’s my first ever job) that i needed to get taxed on my centrelink payments and now it’s predicted i’ll owe nearly 4k to the ato because of this.
although i have a job, i have had a number of weeks without pay due to being sick and having no sick leave (kept annual leave so i could get paid while recovering from surgery for 3 weeks), so even though i was receiving centrelink and money from work (while occasionally dipping into savings to cover medical appointments, medications, hospital parking, rent, bills, food, etc.) i also have weeks of placement for university where i do not receive CSP or get paid leave from work as i needed it for surgery. i was and have been living paycheck to paycheck. at my job i also sometimes finish work at around midnight and have no other way to get home so i unfortunately have to pay for parking as well which is another daily cost that doesnt help.
can anyone help me in terms of how to go about debt release? i don’t earn enough as it is and i genuinely cannot afford to have a payment plan.
any other advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi everyone.
I am working through my tax return for financial year 2025-2026. I worked part time for the financial year. I made sure to always report my income correctly and claimed my DSP as normal with regular work payments with no issues. My tax return does seem to show correct Tax witheld from working etc.
However now when I am doing my Tax Return, in the Gov Pensions/Beneift section, there is no pre-filled auto data or amount (just displays $0.00). I went back and check previous returns and this was automatically done in the past, however I admittedly cannot remember if they ay have also displayed $0.00 while lodging and updated retroactively.
I was just wanting to ask, would I get in to trouble if i lodged my current return with the benefits section having a $0.00 balance? Or should i go and calculate how much DSP i received and then add it manually to the return myself?
I have heard that you can submit it with a $0 balance and then it can apparently be amended at a later date. I have also heard that calculating and adding approximations of your payment can also confuse the ATO and Centrelink as they should already know what balance should be displayed there for the return.
Any guidance on what I should do would be greatly appreciated as I don't want to make any mistakes or get in to trouble for not doing this correctly. I just haven't ran into this issue before as even past Tax returns when i was on Jobseeker many years ago seem to auto calculate and show this.
Apologies for the long post, just want to make sure I don't make mistakes doing this. if anyone has been in a similar situation and could provide any guidance that would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you everyone in advance!
