Am I over reacting?
I got accepted into an ONLINE university last week. Before I applied I had talked a few times with an admissions counselor, she answered all my questions and I thought I understood what I was applying to. I was mostly concerned about a trip I have in August. She told me on the phone "yes you can start this term and still go on the trip, we are flexible, it doesnt matter where you are, our students travel all the time"
So I applied.
Then after I got accepted, I asked her over email if I would be able to miss 12 days for that trip and not do anything for the class during that time. In our previous conversation I think she thought I would be able to do some coursework from abroad, I am not sure she understood that I will be busy on a tour around a country and wont have the time to do any course work. I asked if I could double up on the work before the trip, so I wouldnt be so far behind, and also do the rest when I get back. She responded that she didnt know if it would be ok for me to not do any coursework for 12 full days. She cc'd the registrars office on the email and asked them to answer that question. That was Wednesday.
Yesterday I still hadnt gotten a reply from the registrar, so I replied all to the email saying "Thanks, I look forward to hearing the response from the registrar" and then I tried to call the registrar's phone number. It rang and then said "No one is available to take your call", I left a voice message. Then I called that same number back and chose a different option on the menu and got someone. He was very nice but very clueless. I told him "If it is this hard to get information, I am really reconsidering doing this degree at this university"
He jumped on that and promised he would get me the information. I forwarded him the email I mentioned. Then he also said something about the classes being at scheduled times, which I had never heard before, not from the admissions counselor and not from their website. That freaked me out. I was like, "I got an email that Im enrolled in a class for next term but it didnt say anything about a time. what if I am not available at that time?! If the classes are at scheduled times, shouldn't I be able to choose one that fits my schedule?!" He was like "ok, its possible I remembered that wrong. I will find out for you" That was yesterday(Thursday).
Today(Friday), still no email or call from any of them. I'm seriously thinking about dodging this bullet while I can and finding a different school. Am I over reacting? Do they deserve more time? what is the amount of time that this should take vs this is taking way too long?
