Got my first road bike: Domane AL2 Gen 4! Recs?

I’m new to road bikes, and was recommended the Trek Domane AL 2 Gen 4 by a good friend. So I got it! Right out the shop I got to ride from the shop through the city and then home. It was fantastic with the exception of the soreness from that bare saddle ride. My father used to race and maybe eventually I could get into that but for now I’m going to be doing paved paths in the suburbs / city. A little bit hilly in some places but nothing crazy. I have a hybrid MTB for rockier roads. I’ve ordered my bibs, cycling computer, cleaners etc, and have a little portable tool set. The basics. I’ve read a lot of debate about the longevity of this bike with many folks recommending to get a better one eventually, but have seen also some awesome upgrades for this bike. I guess my questions are these 1) what are your beginner recommendations in general if you had to start over 2) what are your upgrades from what I currently have full stock? 3) did I make a good purchase, if so/if not, why? (Obviously an option-based question just looking to open up the convo)

Thanks in advance!!

Edit: thank you all for your tips so far!! As of right now I’ve got Bontrager Paradigm wheels with Bontrager AW3 Comp (700x32c) tires. I take it from the crowd that those aren’t great! I am open to shoe/clips recommendations. I think a hybrid pedal would be best for me but being so new at this, I’m a sponge to information and trying things out.
