Michelin pro 5s with the brown sidewall looking great. Can’t wait to test these out.
Yes, new ones coming, but got an amazing deal on this and it checks all my boxes. Yes, new models coming in a few weeks … but can’t beat a great sale price.
Pic is from the day I picked it up… 110 miles on it since Saturday.
Been riding my Domane SL5 as a gravel bike for the past couple of seasons. Just bought a second wheelset, the new ENVE 3.4’s are for summer and drier conditions, and my Light Bicycle WR38’s for wet and winter conditions
Love the bike! It spends most of its time on paved trails. I'm planning a trip to ride some around some of the towns and portions of the Kal Haven trail, which is mostly light crushed limestone. Will a change of tires work? I'm not wanting to go full gravel as I want to maintain as much of the light/fast feeling it has now on the paved trails. Is there a good compromise tire?
I heard Gen 5 SL is released, any pictures ?
I have a Trek Domane Al 4 Gen 4 with the stock wheels, and I'd like to upgrade the wheels for style and to increase my speed.
Do you have any affordable wheel sets you can recommend?
I noticed what looks like a chip or damage on the frame near the bottom bracket/chainstay area behind the chainring on my Trek Domane SL7.
I am honestly disappointed to see this. The bike is only about 15 months old, has been well cared for, and has never been crashed. I am not entirely sure whether this happened from a dropped chain, road debris, or something else.
I have attached photos. Based on the photos, does this look like:
chipped paint only,
cosmetic damage that I should seal,
or something that needs a professional carbon/frame inspection?
If it is only a paint chip, what is a reasonable cost to have it repaired or touched up? If it needs a carbon repair, what would you expect that to cost?
The bike rides normally, and I do not see any obvious cracks, but the location makes me a bit nervous.
Would you keep riding it, or take it to a Trek shop first?
Any advice is appreciated.
This is my AL4 Gen 4...I didn't like any of the AL5 colors even though it had 105...but I can use some Ultegra components on this if I want but it would still be 10spd though...
Bike is a AL5 Gen 4, currently running 35mm GP5000 AS TR and the original Paradigm SL rims with 21mm Internal width. I see a common upgrade path to be carbon but thinking aluminum. I like the looks of the DT Swiss ER 1600 30 with the 350 hub or possibly save a few $$$ and get the E 1800 with the 370 hub. So my questions; Is anyone running this set? Is it an upgrade? It looks cool anyway. Is a good hub more important than a lighter wheel? (ie. cheap carbon wheels w/so so hub vs quality aluminum w/decent hub)? Is the 22mm internal width of the DT Swiss optimal for a 35mm tire? Just thinking about next steps - thanks.
Looking at a used 2020 Domane SL 5 - would appreciate some opinions
I'm going to look at a 2020 Trek Domane SL 5 (58 cm) tomorrow and wanted to get some feedback from people who own or have ridden one.
A little about me:
The bike:
I've spoken with the seller on the phone. We have enough in common that I trust him. He says he bought it new, rode it home, realized road biking wasn't really for him, and it has sat in his garage since. He recently took it to Trek for a tune-up before selling it. The photos and videos look very clean. The listing description states "Like new. 3rd Generation. Only ridden once and stored in pristine condition. 58 cm frame. Shimano Hydraulic disc brakes. Trek Bontrager R1 and Affinity TLR wheels. Has tire pump, and front & rear lights. "
My questions:
Thanks!
Hi everyone, I've been considering getting a Domane after getting into riding on an FX3. Initially I've considered the AL5 since the 105 is better for hills and I live in a hilly area, but there's an SL6 (used) available for 2800. This seems like total overkill for my needs, but the idea of getting a carbon bike is certainly appealing. I'm also wondering if I should just go for the new AL4 since it has the updated 11 speed tiagra and is a few hundred less than the AL5. Also, the new SLs are supposed to be coming out which could affect the value of this Gen 4 SL.
In case it's relevant, I'm 140lbs and I've read that lighter bikes make more of an impact if you're a lower weight rider.
Thanks in advanced.
So I’ve had my eye on a trek domane al5 and finally pulled the trigger and bought one.
Walked into trek on Saturday, said I wanted a trek domane al5 size 54 I’m ready to put a deposit and put the rest on a 0% finance plan which I did.
The plan was to walk out the door with the bike there and then. They said I had to wait until finance company gave the A-OK.
Fast forward 2 days and I get a call from trek saying it’s ready to pickup.
I go into store (bear in mind it’s a 2 hour drive from me) and pick the bike up, didn’t look over it too much because I’m buying from the brand retailer thinking they’ll do their checks and make sure bike isn’t damaged even though it was one on the shop floor. I only agreed to the one on the shop dooor if I was taking the bike the same day as I paid the deposit which wasn’t the case. Bring the bike home and I see it has scratches over the bike.
I am on my way to Scotland tomorrow and I have just noticed that TISO (outdoor shop based around Scotland) have a sale on the trek domane al5 for £1125 (with the welcome 10% discount) whereas I paid essentially £1600 at trek.
Do I leave the new trek at my garage and purchase the one from Tiso on my drive up, or do I take the one I purchased and call trek on the drive up and see if I can get refunded for the difference? Has anyone had any previous experiences like this. Advice is much appreciated. I have until tomorrow (Friday) 1pm to decide.
One last question, are these standard tyres for trek domane al5? I heard they come with Bontrager tyres as standard, are these an upgrade or a cheaper tyre been put on?
UPDATE:
So when I called the trek store I bought it from, spoke to the manager there who at asked me to email in the pictures. After receiving the pics he was in shock that the bike was allowed to leave the store like that irregardless of me checking it over or not. He understood my situation of leaving for Scotland that day and not back for 2 weeks. He offered to let me use the bike for the 2 weeks, ordered me a brand new boxed up bike which they’ll have ready for me when I’m back. Just simply pop back, return this bike and take the brand new one, a sweet little store voucher and they also price matched the other bike store so refunded me £400. So all in all it has worked out, albeit I do have to make that round trip journey to trek
White Project One , with about 800 miles on the odometer. Has a small chip on paint , on top of frame (size of a qtip). Size 60cm. I'm 6'-2", 230lbs. This bike has a weight capacity of 270 lbs including frame (28lbs). Is this a good bike for long rides (century)? Am I at capacity ? I hope the bike helps me lose some lbs! Worth the used price? Retailed new for $11k. I know nothing about carbon bikes, let alone expensive ones. What are things to look out for on carbon? What about maintenance and costs? If the battery dies, would the electric derailleur still work? Don't want to get stranded on e battery runs out! Any insights are appreciated!!
Any recommendations for a half frame bag (full length under top tube) that fits perfectly? I run large bottles.
Hello! I have a Trek Domane AL 5 Gen 4 and just have if for a couple of months now. It is the first time I used the front shifter but I don’t know why I can’t shift to the big ring. It worked from big to small ring but it doesn’t work when going back to the big ring. When I try to push the shifter, its too tight or too hard. And I don’t want to force it because I’m scared I’m going to break something.
Thanks in advance!
Finally upgraded the old 2006 1000SL. It’s a solid bike with a modern groupset and carbon wheels, but these new Domane’s are hard to beat.
