Domane Gen 5 SL 650b Tire clearance

Wondering if some of you who already own this bike are able to tell something about the tire clearance for 650b tires.

700c are rated for 40 mm as we all know. In real life there should be maybe something about 42mm possible? Can anyone tell something about that? 42 mm on 700c?

But what about 650b? Maybe a little more?

Is maybe anyone riding this thing with secondary wheelset for gravel (that’s what I would like to do)? Maybe would prefer 650b with 46-48 mm if that is possible.

Isospeed

Hi, have you ever had issues with IsoSpeed? Especially with the newer models from 2024 and 2025? Do these models still have problems? I’m considering buying one, but it’s a lot of money for a bike … so everything should be perfect …. Or is it better to buy the 2027 Domane without isospeed?

Just my modded Gen 3 AL4

This is not it, but I am happy that the Gen 5 SL has this color scheme.

How long will my Domane last?

I bought a SL6 gen4 last year. Happy with the bike but all the fuss about the Domane has remained me on that by bike supposedly is a catastrophe to happen.

So how long can I expect the ISO speed to last before ny bike explode ?

SL6 or SL5?

Now that the Domane Gen 5 is officially live, which do you think is the best value? The SL6 comes with SRAM Rival AXS, 2x12 speed and 50mm carbon wheels, but is it worth the $1,500 USD difference in your opinion?

Curious Msrp of Domane SL Gen 4 vs Gen5

With recent news of the new Gen 5 Domane; looking upon the trek website I’ve noticed the msrp of Gen 4 Domane SL has been discounted to MSRP of Gen 5. My question is why are the Gen 4 Domane’s priced likewise to Gen 5; and why not price them below for incentivizing buyers. I also see the new Gen 5 Domane msrp is much more less than the msrp of Gen 4 domanes when they came out. I’m just curious and so is my wallet

What’s a good price to sell my bike?

I’m listing this Domane + SLR 7 ASX in Iowa and not sure what I should list at? Has 2 range extender’s too.

Al 5 with 40mm Gravelking SS+

I looked through quite a few posts on this sub for examples of an AL Domane with 40mm gravel tires before deciding on them for my bike. Wanted to add to the collection for anyone else doing the same research. These are 700x40 on stock wheels. Absolutely love them.

🚲Domane Upgrades Worth Doing

Upgrades I made to my Domane this year — what was actually worth the money (1st pic is final)
I’ve had my Gen 3 Trek Domane since 2021 and rode it basically stock for years.

This year I finally started upgrading things, and after actually putting miles on everything, I figured I’d share what made a noticeable difference and what was more of a “nice to have.”

My top 3 upgrades are easily the EliteWheels ENT 3.0 wheels, Continental GP5000 All Season 32mm tires, and Garmin rear radar. Those are the three I wouldn’t want to give up.

1. EliteWheels ENT 3.0 — absolutely worth it

This was probably the biggest overall upgrade to the bike.

I went from the stock Domane wheels to the ENT 3.0s and the bike just feels more responsive. Acceleration/pickup is noticeably better, and paired with the GP5000s the whole bike feels faster and more lively.

I went with the 38mm depth instead of the 50mm, and I think that was absolutely the right decision for me. Do I think the 50s look better? Yeah, I love the deeper-wheel look. 😂 But I really don’t like getting pushed around by crosswinds, and stability and confidence were more important to me than going with the deeper option.

The 38s still look lovely on the bike, give me the benefits I was looking for from a carbon wheelset, and I feel much more comfortable with them when the wind picks up. No regrets about choosing the shallower depth.
For the price, I’ve been extremely happy with them.

2. Continental GP5000 AllSeason 32mm — possibly the best bang-for-the-buck upgrade

I actually put the GP5000 AllSeasons on before I got the new wheels, so I was able to feel what the tires alone changed on my stock wheels.

The difference was immediate.

The bike rolled better, pickup felt quicker, and it just felt like I was wasting less energy getting the bike moving.

I rode my first 100K on the 32mm GP5000 AllSeasons while I was still using my stock wheels, so I had a pretty good opportunity to evaluate the tires separately from the wheel upgrade.

If someone asked me where to spend money first, I’d probably say good tires before expensive wheels.

3. Garmin rear radar — non-negotiable for me

I’m currently using the Garmin Varia RearVue 820, and radar has become something I genuinely don’t want to ride without.

Knowing a vehicle is approaching before I can hear it—especially with wind noise—is incredibly useful. I actually didn’t even know New York City bus was behind me yesterday because they’re electric now and if I didn’t have the radar, I actually would have emerged over.

There are cheaper ways to pair radar too. I used the Cadence app on my phone and thought it was fantastic, so you absolutely don’t need a dedicated Garmin computer just to get into radar.

The Varia 820 + Edge 840 combination is great, but radar itself is the important upgrade.

Everything after those three falls into either fit-specific or “nice to have” territory for me.

Zipp SL 70 XPLR handlebars: Probably not worth the money purely as a performance upgrade for me. I did need to go from a 42cm to a 40cm bar after my bike fit, so changing the bars made sense. I have idk speed up front too so I don’t think it really made a difference

PRO Stealth saddle: Worth it for me, but this is completely fit-dependent. After my bike fit, my previous saddle wasn’t working for me. The Stealth’s shape and increased flare solved an actual problem, so I consider this more of a necessary fit correction than an “upgrade.”

Garmin Edge 840: Very nice to have, but definitely not necessary. I was genuinely impressed with the Cadence app on my phone before getting the Garmin. The 840 gives me a dedicated screen, navigation, radar integration, data, etc., and I love having it—but I wouldn’t tell a new cyclist they need to immediately spend hundreds on a bike computer. I also think the iGPSport BiNavi Air and BSC500 with the bell 🔔 are excellent alternatives.

Favero power meter pedals: Also firmly in the “nice to have” category. I really like having power data and it’s useful for understanding my effort and training, but they’re absolutely not necessary to enjoy riding or become a stronger cyclist. 160 hours of battery life and no nonsense setup are AMAZING and totally worth over all other pedals IMHO.

So after upgrading a bike that I rode stock for several years, my ranking would be:
🥇 Continental GP5000 AllSeason TR 32mm — biggest bang for your buck

🥈 EliteWheels ENT 3.0 38mm — biggest overall change to how the bike feels

🥉 Garmin rear radar — biggest safety/awareness upgrade

If I were starting over with a stock road bike tomorrow, I’d spend money on tires → radar → wheels before worrying about carbon handlebars, power meters or an expensive cycling computer.

Curious what everyone else’s “I would immediately buy this again” upgrade has been.

Cheers ☕️

T47 BB upgrade choices...

So, finally taking the plunge and updating my CP to GRX Di2 12sp...

Since I'll be replacing the crankset, was thinking might be good time to replace the Praxis T47 inboard thread in bottom bracket. Not looking to move into Ceramic Speed territory or anything, but was looking at Wheels Mfg, Wolfs Tooth, and Chris King as a few options. OR, alternatively just replacing the praxis Enduro ABEC-3's with some ABEC-5 Angular bearings (which, I already have, as I bought them in the past planning to upgrade at some point anyway).

TBH, I don't know that there's anything really wrong with the Praxis T47 setup - I don't have any noise from it, however it does not hardly free-spin at all when I set the Shimano crank pre-tension per the manual. By comparison, I did upgrade my Domane bearings to the ABEC-5 Angular's, and did pick up more free-spin (Ultregra Di2 group) over the stock (Trek - assuming Enduro) bearings. However it is a press in, so not an apples to apples comparison.

Or, maybe just chasing at shadows? I doubt the Praxis is slowing me down or anything lol... maybe I am being lulled into a "more freespin is better" trap unnecessarily :).

Gravel Ride GravelFlings X1+

Testing out the gravel wheelset. Just threw on some Gravelking X1+ 35mms. Felt good on rocks and gravel. Not a slug on the road either which is nice. I took the more rocky/gravely sides of the canals to put them through their paces. Overall I'm impressed. Ran them at 70psi (max 75 tubed), probably would have been a more comfortable ride with a lower pressure. My only real complaint is that these things fling gravel pretty consistently. Guess the "GravelFling" name is true. I heard a loud ping as it rocketed gravel at a metal pole a distance from me - pray for those behind and around you. Even had it kick some up and hit my helmet. So be aware lol. Also I don't have a powermeter yet, that avg is from garmin/strava. Eyeing some assiomas but waiting on a sale.

Trek Domane/Madone Seatpost Binder

Hi guys,
I recently discovered the Trek Domane seatpost flaw when trying to adjust mine.

Being an aerospace engineer, the design really bugged me — especially after seeing how widespread the issue is across Domane and Madone frames. So I machined my own solution, which has been working flawlessly for some time now.

The current prototype version is machined from brass to avoid galvanisation, but will be a lighter weatherproof material to match the original Trek parts weight.

Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue and needs one as I’m considering making a small batch if there’s enough interest.
Thanks
