Gravel Ride GravelFlings X1+

Testing out the gravel wheelset. Just threw on some Gravelking X1+ 35mms. Felt good on rocks and gravel. Not a slug on the road either which is nice. I took the more rocky/gravely sides of the canals to put them through their paces. Overall I'm impressed. Ran them at 70psi (max 75 tubed), probably would have been a more comfortable ride with a lower pressure. My only real complaint is that these things fling gravel pretty consistently. Guess the "GravelFling" name is true. I heard a loud ping as it rocketed gravel at a metal pole a distance from me - pray for those behind and around you. Even had it kick some up and hit my helmet. So be aware lol. Also I don't have a powermeter yet, that avg is from garmin/strava. Eyeing some assiomas but waiting on a sale.

Working towards my first event

Crazy how far I've come since November. Never thought I'd be at this point. Currently working towards getting my mileage and average speed up. Want to do a 62mi ride event later on this year. Finished my first 45mi ride this morning! Working my mileage up bit by bit. Started cycling in February at 275lbs. A sport bike was my first goal weight reward as I figured it'd help me keep going. A few months later I hit my second goal of 250lbs and bought an endurance bike for group and road riding. Loving the hobby/sport and looking forward to see how far I can push myself.

Progress Update

Let's goooo! Officially 100lbs down from my starting weight. Got about 15 lbs to go to my original goal (215). I think I'll actually modify it to 30-35lbs (195-200). We'll see how I feel when I get there. Definitely still got some chunk and not sure if the 15lbs will get me where I want to be. I feel like I completely overhauled my lifestyle. I spend significantly more time outside and being active than I ever thought I would. I still video game/tcg it up but I'm excited to go be active first. Never would have thought I'd be here but I'm loving.

Stats: 6ft, M, Mid 30's

Diet: Consistently track and eat about 1800-2200 cals daily. Typically right around 2000. I eat out maybe 3 times a month, those meals are accounted for and I adjust my diet for that day. I do some meal prep which makes eating at work easy. I do not eat back exercise calories. The only exception I make is for cycling days, I eat a mid ride snack of 150-200 cals and have an electrolyte drink of 15-30 cals. I don't factor those into my daily allowance. I don't really drink anything other than water, coffee, and electrolytes.

Supplements: Miralax (half cap a day), Benefiber (3 tsp a day), Sports Research Multi-vitamin (2) and Fish Oil (2)

Exercise: Lifting 2-3 times a week (2 average). Cycling 2-4 times a week (Currently averaging 3 times a week for 75 miles/week). Walking 5000 steps minimum a day. I try to hit 7500-10k on non-cycling days.

Bike fit & Upgraded Wheels

Finally got a fit done on my Domane AL5 Gen4 and what a world of difference it makes. Seat raised up a bit which has helped my legs balance the workload. Also brought the seat a ton forward so I'm not reaching and killing my lower back. Got some wider handlebars with flared drops coming in with new grip tape - I'm a big boy and I like to use my drops sometimes. My LBS completed my second wheelset so I finally got to take it on a ride. The time and speed difference is crazy. Did the same ride a week ago on stock rims and tires. Love how quiet the wheels are, just gotta remember to yell out when passing people now. Going to use the stock wheels and tires for a gravel set, when the tires finally die I'll get some gravelkings.

Tires: Aeolus Pro 28mm - I ride them tubed. Got them free with the wheels. Will go back to 32mm when these die and probably get some GP5000s.

Wheels: Aeolus Pro 51mm - Got them on ebay for a good discount. They were used on a demo bike in a shop.

Buy the Clothes

You don't have to get a whole new wardrobe but I highly recommend buying a few new sets of clothes especially after a major weight reduction. I had originally planned on waiting until I was closer to my goal weight but my clothes started to bunch up and it was almost like I was wearing blankets. Getting some clothes that actually fit has done wonders for my body dsymorphia. I also feel significantly more comfortable in clothes that fit properly. I've gone from 330lbs to 237lbs, 3x/4x shirts to XL and 44 waist pants to 36-38. Planning to hit the thrift store later to grab some more clothes to hold me over - excited that I'll have options as big & tall is normally scarce.

Also, if your old clothes are in good condition, please think about donating them! I donated my old clothes to a family in need and it helped clear my closet while helping someone else. It can be hard to find good clothes as a bigger person.

Making the leap

Just signed up with Trillium. Waiting to get approved. Been on OG Zep since November at 2.5-3.25mg dosage. Down from 330lbs to 245lbs. Got a bit more to go but I've made some progress. Lately my shots have been less effective so I looked at going up in dosing. The sticker shock of $400/mo at 5mg and $450/mo for anything above that had me looking for other options and here I am. Fingers crossed! It's hard to believe I can potentially get 5mg for $100 less a month than 2.5mg cost me. Looking forward to seeing all ya'lls progress :)
