The reality of long chapters.
Now hear me out: Recently Novel Length Chapters have exploded in length, and thats a good thing. But i dont think anyone assumes this is even remotely economical. For multiple reasons.
Really long chapters are bound to contain considerable amounts of filler. I personally have to delete a lot of content from any chapter above 5000 words in length, simply because it drifts too much.
Chapters of this length take up a lot of tokens, and chances are they get so much wrong that they need to be rewritten multiple times, meaning even more tokens are going down the drain.
My proposition: Add more chapter length options. Keep Novel Length at the intended 3500 mark for 10 quills. Add an option for 15 quills which aims for 4500-5000 words in length. Then add an option for 20 quills aiming for the extremely long chapters with 6500+ words.
I know people want to keep these extremely long chapters for 10 quills, but this simply will not happen. Its unrealistic. So the best we can hope for is more choices and options for those who want it, instead of overcorrecting the generation lengths, resulting in another wave of fallout due to short novel length chapters.
For me, right now, Novella is too short, and Novel is too fucking long most of the time. But that doesnt mean i want to lose the option for such insanely long chapters.
